Evening Caterina, very glad to see you're feeling on the up after your op! I've been lurking lately but not had a moment to myself to post :(

The builders finished their work just before Christmas but will be back soon to finish off the little bits and pieces that got left as Christmas approached. We are now knee deep in decorating. The whole house is being decorated, top to bottom, so a big job. After the lovely builders we had the decorator they recommended and he's a funny chap :( has an opinion on everything. Literally everything, decorating or otherwise. This is proving extremely irritating but I'm trying to keep my gob shut so that the painting gets done and dusted.

Frog came down with chicken pox right after new year and has just gone back to nursery today, good grief I was relieved to see her go!! :rotfl:

Hi Icey77, good to see you posting.

Thank you for your kind words.

Glad to hear you had lovely builders, shame about the decorator, just shut your ears and think that it will soon be over!

Really sorry about poor Frog and chicken pox, but it is better she gets it out of the way sooner rather than later. Watch out for signs of it on the baby, it takes a few days before the spots appear, it all usually starts with a mild cold. Hope he manages to get away with it and not get it!

I have been thinking of you, will you be around early February for a fish and chips meet up during the week? The Usual Suspects and I met up last Saturday as there was a jumble sale at the church across the road, but it was quite an impromptu thing. If you still have my mobile no, text me yours and I shall let you know if we get together, what days are good for you?

Look forward to seeing you and Frog again (she must be such a young lady now) and meet baby!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Good morning,

Icey I shall let you know the next fish and chips outing x

    Today's OS plan:

DH sent off with a good breakfast and leftovers from yesterday packed lunch, then as the sun is shining a batch of towels laundry is in the machine.

DS and I had breakfast too, the last two eggs, but as I was cooking DS's one, mine rolled and smashed on the floor. Ok, in my kitchen in 2015 this is not a disaster, but I thought what if I were a wartime wife and mother, would I have left that egg so carelessly unguarded, free to roll off? And if I had, would I have picked it up from the floor, still in its shell as it was, albeit rather smashed, and used it anyway? It made me stop and think. As it happens, mine went into the compost, so not a total waste, but still...

How much living the OS lifestyle changes one's thinking! I bet that the majority of my female acquaintances (and 100% of my male ones) would think "bloody nuisance" and move on, but here I am, obsessing about how a mother 75 years ago would have felt.

Anyway, back to today's plan, not much of one as it is my work-free day (paid work I mean). There will be laundry to hang, some ironing to do and the Seville oranges are in the pressure cooker, soon to be turned into marmalade.

At 5pm I am attending a free taster for a local (free) yoga class, I hope it will be nice and gentle. It is in a mental health centre so there will be vulnerable people and people in not the best of health. I hope that the teacher will be sensible and sensitive, not one of those mad athletic young things, Ashtanga yoga-head or Guru-like moron. All of those are characters I have encountered in my lifelong quest to find a nice, gentle and suitable yoga class. Wish me luck!

Yesterday DS announced that he is going to Spain to visit a friend, with another friend, for a week. Cheap flight, free accommodation, but when he gets back he has a minimum of two weeks jury service and then DH and I made it very clear to him that this is THE END OF THE 25 YEAR HOLIDAY!!!

I am going to take advantage of the absence of DS's (moderately) fussy tastes and try for a Fiscal Fast, a 7 day stretch of NSDs, shopping entirely from cupboards, fridge and freezer, with a couple of forages into the allotment. Not sure how much I can prepare in advance to make it real and true, I know that I shall have to get at least enough fresh fruit and veg to last us a week, as well as wet cat food, the veg part is , easily resolved with no more than a tenner in the market. Will update here.

At one point earlier on I thougth I ought to take advantage of the 2 for 1 Orange Wednesday before they remove it in February (OS thinking) but you know what? Then I reasoned that it is not needed, we have lots of catch up stuff to watch on TV, including episode 3 of Last Tango in Halifax, and that new diet programme on BBC2 (radical OS thinking)!

    Have a good OS day.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Today was a NSD and I caught the bus to work which saved some money which I have put into savings account already.
Work was just bearable - my back has become worse caused by sitting too long at work yesterday but no support from work so more incentive to budget so I can leave sooner.

Caterina good luck on your fiscal fast.

(((Villagelife))), so sorry you are suffering with your back, and how appalling that your employers are unsupportive. Good luck with leaving the rat race as soon as you can, I did and never looked back!

  • Good Evening,

Villagelife, I hope your back starts to feel better soon. Shame on your work for being so unhelpful

Caterina, good luck with your fiscal fast. I have had a similar conversation with my DD2 (17) about finding work once her A levels are over, she is in no doubt that my wonder DH and her wonderful Step Dad will not be working 11 hour days so she can loll around in bed! I do worry though as she is so painfully shy :(

A quiet day for me but my DD2 spent a couple of hours watching the Kate Hopkins experiment that was on TV recently, I love watching these sorts of programs with her as we always end up having lovely chats about whether it's right to make programes like this, the impact it has on people watching it etc. We recently watched a series on one of the Sky channels (no idea which one) about the Bible and religion. DD2 is studying Philosophy at A level and the conversations are really good and she loves telling me what she is studying so I very much enjoyed our afternoon together.

I had a couple of hours to myself late afternoon so spent a couple of hours doing some cross stitch, it was lovely and relaxing.

A NSD for me today, yesterday wasn't though as DH had a cracing for Jammie Dodgers so I popped out to get him a packet from the local shop. Hoping for a NSD tomorrow as not planning on going out at all.

Hope everyone stays safe in this awful weather and catch up soon

Back is slowly improving - thanks for the kind words.
I have voluntered for some weekend overtime as its double time and I thought no more would be availiable. Hopefully if I'm given some of the dates the money will be saved for retirement. Working at a weekend is good as its just the work.
I must do some meal planning today to use up food in freezer and cupboards as I know that this is a good way to keep costs down and also to eat well and healthily.
I need to go to postoffice again later to collect parcel for DH and need to collect DS1 from station but otherwise should be trying to declutter.
  • Morning everyone, its early here and a rarity that I'm up on my own. I've been busy busy with school hols and not really had time to sit sown and read through my threads :(
Still rocking it OS though, making baby food and muffins for the boys, hubby and I are planning for an unusual drop in hours - I think we'll be fine as we have our OS caps on now and we're in this midst of planning a veggie garden which will help cut cost.
I had a windfall last week, I got a 'school kids bonus' from the government which will cover DS1 school fees so I only need to find money for uniform now and a bit of stationary.
Well thats my time up DS 2 & 3 are awake maybe I'll get to read the thread later.
    Have a great day x
Love people use things. The opposite never works.

BTW am on NSD no. 8 today and working towards my fiscal fast next week. See you soon x
