PS4 or Xbox One?

For a 10 year old, a PS3 or Wii U would be a far better choice. Nintendos own games are second to none in quality, and the PS3 has a massive range of titles. If he would like something less family orientated as he already has a Wii, then I would go for a PS3. Just keep him away from all those mature 18+ first person shooting games
In my opinion the PS4 and XBoxOne do not offer great value for money at near £400. The tech spec leap as each new generation appears (eg PS3 to PS4) is getting smaller and smaller too, and a 10 year old will care more for the games rather than any minor graphical differences that fanboys of any console will note to one another to try to give the impression that their system is the best. I would wait for prices to fall before opting for either an PS4 or XBox One console. By the time they are of a more acceptable price, there will a far greater range of titles to choose from too
If you really want to spend that £400 and choose between either PS4 or XboxOne, the PS4 has the highest sales in the US and UK at present, and I highly doubt the XBoxOne will be able to keep up with it. The PS4 will likely have the most third party support and the largest library of software in future as a result, appealing to a wider market and age range.trollopscarletwoman wrote: »My sons got an xbox one.
I've got a Commodore 64 from the 80's. Still great fun.
My ZX Spectrum wins hands down against that junk.. now if only I could find a replacement PSU to prove it lol0 -
I was all set to get a PS4 until I checked out the games and reviews and TBH there's not one that takes my fancy. There are a few in the pipeline for 2015 that look promising (No Man's Sky!) but right now? Nothing. Totally underwhelmed by the graphics on the games so far too, they seem like a port from the PS3 / Xbox 360 with a few fancy extras.0

I've been looking for a reason to to buy a next gen system too but it looks like there won't be a single game worth buying until next year, if at that. Unless Alien Isolation is really amazing.0

I switched to Sony this generation.
I have been a xbox user since the first xbox, xbox live used to sway me in the way of microsoft.
But now PSN has everything XBL has, or if not more.
Also the exclusives sony had last year towards the end of the PS3's cycle. They appealed to me much more than the XB exclusives.
I may miss Halo, that is all. But all in all I feel like a have made the correct decision.0 -
PS4 is cheaper in in terms of console and online subscription.
) Both consoles have been £287.77, although the Xbone has been £300 with Fifa bundled in.
Has more power and does not crash as Xbox one does a lot.Xbox one controller is awful, even xbox users don't like it.Better games on PS4more apps like netfix and Instant Prime on it.This is from my experience.
But thank you for taking the time to tailor your response to the fact that the OP is looking for a console for their ten-year-old son.Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
How many times has it broke?
So far I've had the original PS4 returned twice to the service centre, and returned twice not working - then got a replacement (don't know if new or refurbished) PS4 sent through, which also broke within a day. Waiting now for another broken PS4 to be returned...
I've only played the PS4 for less than 10 hours, and have then spent the last 4 weeks returning broken units. Completely lost any interest in the PS4...0 -
I recently made the jump from XBOX360 to PS4.
A couple of niche games I'm interested in both released/due to release XBOX360 versions and PS4 versions this year. This tells me that either PS4 is easier to code for or there are far more PS4s out there and therefore more likely to get niche titles where sales are more limited.
Secondly PS4 can be stood on its end, XBOX One can't which was a factor with my limited space.
Currently enjoying The Last Of Us Remastered.
My son however, will be getting an XBOX One because that's what is friends have got/will be getting. That's just the way it is, which is unfortunate when we want to play together because of a controller shortage!!0 -
I had an xbox 360 which I loved but I dropped it so thought I would buy a ps3. Absolutely hated it. Hardly ever played with it and sold it a year later. So I decided to buy an xbone.
I love the media side of it BUT i absolutely hate all the updates. I dont play it regularly as im usually too busy but I put it on to destress and end up going insane at doing 500 MB - 2GB updates every frickin time.
Also not many games yet. Xbox 360 gets my vote.
I havent played with ps4 but my experieence with ps3 put me off completely.0 -

I have a PS4, the updates drive me nuts. I dont live in a quick broadband area also. Sometimes I may only be able to turn it on once a fortnight and its sods law the game I want to play has a 1.5gb update.
Apart from that the PS4 is great. I would assume this is the same on the Xbox One but that is always turned on.
It sounds like you have made your mind up on the Xbox One. Get it, it will be a great machine.0
