moremore, I'm sure your intentions are good but it comes across that you have no idea about the social care system. The great majority of carers are not abusive, and will report anyone they suspect of wrongdoing. When abuse does occur it is more likely to be reported by colleagues than picked up by CCTV. You say CCTV should only be used where people are not able bodied, what about those with learning difficulties, should they be ignored? What about those people who receive care in their own homes?

I could go on but there is point as your suggestion is completely unworkable. That is probably why the petition has received so few signatures in the two years it has been active.

Is this the social care you are referring to..

This was only highlighted as many cases of abuse on CCTV.

I have had advisory and research roles in social care. I see the whole picture, not just the isolated cases shown in the newspapers.

Any kind of abuse is unacceptable, but sadly where human beings are involved this is always a risk. The same risk applies in schools, hospitals, any place where humans come into contact with each other. Are you suggesting we put CCTV everywhere? Or are you just going to keep telling people to sign a meaningless petition without considering the implications?

For years I have had a close member of my family in care homes, one home was very abusive toward my close member of family. The second home she was moved to also treated badly as well, but was too ill to move.
Amazed that your research does not show the appalling care homes that are operating everywhere in UK, Europe as well. Maybe you can advise me on the link I can provide regarding many abusive care home (one that comes to mine was Southern Cross anyone can Googly it and other abusive care homes that have been closed down and its happening everyday now) as you know from your research many people there died unnecessary in care home due to due to abuse and lack of care!!
Also why is CQC not picking up on abusive care? It is obvious they are just doing a tick box exercise once a year to show they have visited the homes!
I am no way forcing anyone to sign it is up to them maybe that is the view you take considering your occupations.
Regarding putting CCTV everywhere obviously able body residents will have a choice and also can voice concern about abuse. Non able body residents are not able to voice that they are being abused and they are the ones that needs protection as they are humans and feel pain and that should not be happening behind closed doors??
