In light of all the abuse highlighted recently in care home a petition has been set to get CCTV's in care homes, it seems to be no other way to stop this happening to elderly people.
Please sign it if you can. :T

only 2,305 signatures so far come on guys my mate used to work in one of the care homes on tv for abuse and she regularly went home in tears and reported everything she saw to the manager and was ignored!! so something needs to be done asap.0

I am of course against the abuse of anyone but what about the privacy of the person who lives in the care home? I don't think wholesale application of CCTV is the answer.
I am not saying the whole care industry is a mess and there are some fantastic carers out there but the "industry" was usually staffed by people with a vocation to look after the vunerable and you rarely heard of the scale of abuse we see now. Some of the changes in society have led to care being a dumping ground for people who have to get a job somewhere or face benefit cuts and sanctions. They hate what they are doing and have no love for their charges some of them are cruel and nasty people who steal from their clients and hurt and abuse them.
It's become a financial calculation cheapest people on contracts that give no security whilst the Care companies are raking in big money for doing the job very badly in a lot of cases...
I have no intention of tarring all carers with the same brush I know some are fantastic but the bad ones give all a bad name sadly.0 -
All cares are been tarred with same brush as there is so much abuse going on in care home ..,,.CCTV will show up good care and we want to stop abusive care but it is not stopping no matter how much it is highlighted , it just keeps happening..let get rid of this

I am in the sad position of shortly having to find a nursing home for a much loved relative. I am absolutely petrified that I am going to make a mistake with the home I choose.
Petition signed and thank you for the post.0 -
CCTV has now become a sad necessity due to all the cases of abuse, in my opinion. It can only improve standards of care. A lot more needs to be done too, but this is a step in the right direction. Senior staff would, however, have to review CCTV footage on a regular basis to make this worthwhile and act accordingly with re-training and disciplinary procedures. I'm not convinced this would happen - but we can only hope.0

The difficulty is the time and number of trained and experienced staff needed to view each and every day all of the 24/7 CCTV coverage for all residents rooms and common areas..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Perhaps if more people cared for their elderly relatives themselves in their own homes, there would not be the need to pay strangers who have to be watched by CCTV to do it.0

It's just not possible for people to give up their jobs to look after frail people full-time. And I, for one, have no children or relatives who could look after me. I dread the day that I go into a home.0 -

I am in the same situation as you and wonder about who will look after me. I have cared for two relatives in old age/illness not including helping my mother care for my granny when I was a kid. It is possible.0
