Well the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) scheme in England, closed to new applicants on 1 January 2011. Schools, colleges and training providers have funds to help you if you’re studying or starting a course and face financial hardship. For advice speak to student support services or your tutor.0

A 16 (and over) year old in school or college (non-advanced education) they may be able to receive up to £30 paid into their bank or building society. This is part of the governments plan to encourage 16 yr. olds to stay in education.
Forms should be available now for the next academic year.

If you're in Scotland you can still claim for next year ... but only if you've been in Scotland for at least 2 years ... so no point in running over the border to claim
My son qualified last year in the UK ... ended up paying it all to his Mum for "Rent" ... ho hum!0
