I was made redundent in June and am currently claiming JSA. I have just been told that my daughters EMA (£10) will not increase for this coming year as they go off last years earnings. Yet if she had been receiving £30 because I was unemployed and I got a job, her money would not be reduced no matter what I earned.0

I sent off my aplication, got a reply.
I will be getting £30 a week (which will go towars bus fairs, stationary, and fags)
:money:No links in signatures and no referrals please. If you're unsure why please read the forum rules.0 -
both my wife and i were made redundant earlier this year but as it goes off last years earnings i assume we get sweet FA for our daughter going into the sixth form0

When I was at college a few years ago, when EMA was around then. I wasn't eligible for EMA as my parents earned too much so I had to work Saturdays & Sundays in order for me to gain money to afford bus/train fares!! It was a nightmare as working weekends was difficult when I had so much work to do! And there was the lucky EMA people.. getting £30 a week, and they were generally the people who could walk to college. AND they got a bonus too (about £100 every 6 months or something, as long as they turned up to college every day.) Its ridiculous.. I had to work 3 days to earn £100!! and all they had to do was go to college every day, which is why i did most of my work at home and didnt go in as I couldnt afford to on some occasions!0

Just looking at this EMA and it says its paid for three years so does the first year at uni qualify or is the third year for re-sits?0

Three years below degree level; not university.0 -
EMA is a joke.
Last year my eldest son was in sixth form, our home income was just over the threshold so he got nothing. He attended every lesson beacuse he wanted to be there, he couldn't get a job and we had little spare to help him out. His friends openly admitted they turned up because they were paid to do so by EMA.
This year my second eldest joined sixth form, my income has fallen slightly but still just over threshold unfortunately. Both lads now receive no EMA support despite both attending of their own choice and motivation. The students should be treated equally regardless of parent's income, and if that is no the case, the income should be reviewed based on many many post-16 year olds it supports.
Maybe wouldn't be so bad if they get jobs, but none going. Credit to the eldest for working in a charity shop to keep busy and boost his CV whilst unable to get other work experience.0 -

My guess is that the packs for next year are not ready yet, thy usually give them out in the school in the summer term.0
