i think its terrible thats everythings always means tested. just because my parents work i cant get ema. its pathetic. just because they earn more doesnt mean they can afford to give me £30 a week

I agree, that's the problem with the benefits system, the people who have been able to earn more get less and pay more....hardly fair is it
    Always ask ACAS

I agree totally. We earn £80 a year too much! We are hardly high earners but our son can't claim ema. It should not depend on the parents income.

why wont they ever change it:(

Donate blood few times a week to raise some pocket money.
 2014: £20 voucher from SurveyFriends, £10 cash payout from Panel Opinion too and working towards more from Valued Opinions currently.
2013: £35 and £50 vouchers from SurveyFriends! More than £15 made from other paid surveys sites (Yougov, Panel Opinion, Valued Opinions, Pinecone, etc.) Happy so far!

I am Currently awaiting my Tech Application reply for further Education, i am getting Ema Money i think this is great i can save more money into my Bank Account while going to learn something which i have a passion for. Computers. :)

Although i find that very unfair that parents with wealthy incomes are ignored concerning the Ema system i feel every teenager attending further education should be able to claim the money.
  • I'm probably on the wrong forum, but does anyone know if my son can claim EMA WITHOUT him having a Child Benefit number?

For various reasons they refuse to pay Child Benefit to me and so I cannot get LHA etc as I cannot show I have children, but some official forms require the Child Benefit number and although my salary is well below the threshold for full EMA I fear it's another benefit we're entitled to but wont get...

Annoyingly, I can't get EMA coz the combined household income is only about £1000 a year over the limit to get the minmum amount. I really need the money as my mum and her partner have loads of debts to pay off so I can only get money for the bus for when noone can drop me off on the way to work.
Savings £8,865.22 £/15,000 Aiming to save enough for a house deposit.
