I wish the penalties for using phones were worse. Can say that for a lot of crimes though. The amount I see going around roundabouts yacking...

I cant imagine I could concentrate even via bluetooth (cant remember the last time i spoke to someone using a mobile and they weren't breaking up) but I don't much like driving, so many morons about. Let alone when people actually make human error.0 -
I saw a van driver on the road last week holding the phone with his right hand to his left ear.0

While it is nicer to be able to talk handfree and wireless via a bluetooth system provided or retro fitted to the car it's not an excuse for people to continue to use their phone in their hands.
I'd say probably 90% or more of phones nowadays come with pair of headphones with a microphone in to allow you to make and receive calls. I often plug in when I get in the car if my little bluetooth unit on the sun visor is charging.
It's really not difficult not to use your phone when driving.0 -

I've seen many people do this with headphones and i presume for the same reason as you, but on the A14 on Sunday saw a guy with headphones on, bopping head to the music as he cruised passed everyone who was moving to the inside lane for him, oblivious to the paramedic car thing (Skoda Octavia Estate) with blue lights and sirens blaring behind him trying to get passed...0 -
Got really annoyed when I saw the bin wagon driver driving down our street, chatting on his mobile - phone in one hand, and a sandwich in the other, while he was maneouvering down the street so the lads could put the bins on the back. Crazy.0

What gets me are the number of people in high end cars which have bluetooth still driving holding phone to their ear.
High end cars? Bluetooth is fairly standard now in many recent cars. I have a 2012 Yaris hybrid (so certainly not what I'd call a "high end car" :rotfl: ) and it does have Bluetooth. Though even then I'd only use it if it's important and I can't pull over to make a call (which so far has happened once when I got stuck in a mammoth traffic jam due to a big accident and I knew I was going to be at least an hour late - and that point no-one was moving anyway...) It wouldn't even cross my mind to read or send a text whilst drivingNow free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Never use a mobile with my engine on . Simple reason many years ago in the days of car phones a guy i knew slightly had a bad accident on the A14 .
Leaned down slightly to pick up the car-phone . Drove under the back of a HGV and decapitated himself .Similar type of event made me always wear a seat belt . Its amazing what can happen to your head at 30MPH .0 -

Probably because he was driving so close the the HGV anyway. Arguably looking sideways to check your win mirrors/rear view mirrors could have caused the same thing. Also back in the carphone days they uses non-abs drum brakes which weren't very good with sudden braking.0
