Neighbour has a cockeral

That wakes use at between 4.30am - 5.30am crowing and continues throughout the day.

Not really bothered about evenings but the early mornings are catching up.

What would you do?

Our gardens back onto each other so never seen them to speak too.

They are semi and I know their direct neighbour has called council and has to keep a record.

Estate is 12years old and has restrictive covenants on no poultry do I call house builder, will they be bothered?

If I ever see it running loose will put cat over fence to sort the problem.

    Lucky you!

More people should keep hens/cockerals - I'm all in favour.

I get ordinary birds in the trees doing that. Fact of life, birds tend to make a noise at dawn

GM ,you have never been one for foul comments before !

But I too love my birds, I have walked and walked around The Great Yorkshire Show today looking for white cochin hatching eggs so anyone in this property forum got any give me a shout .

However back to the question go talk to your neighbour if it is bothersome for you they could darken the shed or lf it can't stretch its neck it won't crow meaning low ceiling in cage .

We have groove around with nests but rarely been woken by birds, seagulls now and again but this is every morning on a housing estate.

Hen's I do not have a problem with but feel they are ignorant that they have a cockeral aswell, all kept in a very small pen so believe me the birds are not having best of life.

Is it possible to stop them crowing in morning? Blacked out hutch or something.

I think this covenant is just there in the hope people will obey it, as I believe that the law states that such covenants are void.

However, the chickens may not be a nuisance. A cockerel may very well be a nuisance, the way you describe the situation.

Give the OP your phone number, I'm sure she'll be pleased to give you a call at 4.30 so you can hear it too.

Keeping any bird in a cage is cruel. The fact the owners have to keep it in a cage just goes to show the bird has no intention on coming back should it escape.

A cockerel is in no way suitable for a closely populated area. Likening it to the rest of the dawn chorus completely off base.
  • A cat won't sort the problem, the hens will go for it . try your local council.

I would, but I suspect the OPs c*ck would be drowned out by my neighbour's.

But I could start a tote on which was louder if anyone's interested.

Would help me feather my nest....
