Around 10-15min walk to the station, then overground for 1 hour, then a 20-25min walk. So 1h 30min to 1h 40min. I pay £2.30 each way, so £4.60 a day. I save a little bit by claiming refunds for delays ;)

I don't mind the long commute, as I do all of my reading/studying while travelling to work. And anyway, it's only 3 days a week. Plus, the 20min walk at the end is up a steep hill, which definitely wakes me up after a sleepy train journey. By the time I get to work, I'm pumped to sort the ____ of those accounts!
  • I'm currently a half hour walk away from work, but I'm back working in Central London again next month and honestly I can't wait for my commute. I live 5 mins walk from the station, have a half-hour train journey, and my new job is 5 mins walk from Victoria.

Oh to be able to have time to read again, don't even mind if I have to stand! Not looking forward to paying £200 a month for the privilege though :(

I think an hour-and-a-half would be my maximum commuting time, and only if the cost of the journey was relevant to my salary.

I was commuting to London, leaving home at 7am and getting home again at 7.30pm and that was if the trains ran on time so often my travel time was a lot longer, A monthly season ticket cost in the region of £400.

I've now given that up and work locally. Depending on traffic 15-30 min drive and I have a nice economical car so petrol lasts me ages!

About an hour and a quarter on the train. £21.40 per day. I work 2 days a week in the office and 1 day a week from home.
  • It takes me about an hour door to door commuting into London including a 20-25 min train, 10-15 min tube and 10 min walk. Costs £222 a month.

My previous job was a 20 min walk from home (or about 3 in the car) but the job wasn't that great despite being so close to home. I miss having more time in the evenings, but it is just a different routine to get used to.

I wouldn't want to commute much more than an hour - but as someone said previously it's not the distance that's the problem but how long it takes to get there. I used to drive from jct 16 to 11 of the M25 every day for just over a year - it used to take sometimes up to 2 hours to get through that traffic and eventually I had enough.

I drive 10 miles and it takes about 20 minutes (I rarely go in/finish at peak times which is good as then it takes an hour). Costs about £80 a month in fuel.

I have had to use public transport occasionally when the car's been out of action. Using the bus would be 5 minutes walk away then a 40 minute journey costs about £4 for a single. Train takes about 20 minutes with a 20 minute walk either side (£5 for a single). Shift patterns mean I'm either starting before the first bus goes or finishing after the last one leaves so have to mix and match train and bus - not too bad on an early but adds on another £10 for a taxi to the station on a late shift (the train leaves at midnight and I wouldn't want to be out walking at that time).
  • I have done >1 hour commutes and also been able to walk 1.2 miles to work. Currently I live 2.5/3 miles from work and cycle. It takes no more than 15 minutes in the morning and a bit longer going home (it is uphill at the end!).

I can honestly say, the cycling is amazing and really does energise me in the mornings. It is keeping me fitter than I would otherwise be as well.

Annual cost is around £100, which covers servicing and any maintenance needed on the bike as well as the odd bus fare if bike is off the road. I cycle all year round and in any weather unless it is extremely windy (which makes things much more dangerous on a bike).

It used to take me 20 minutes to do a 7.5 mile drive but I now have a new job which is a 15 minute walk away, or 5 minutes by bike.

SE London/Kent botders to Cannon Street 156 pcm for a monthly return. 2 min walk to station, 27 min train & 5m walk to the office.

Am thinking of moving out of the M25 in a couple of years so fares will double as will travel time by approx 20mins each way but for good grammar schools & big houses it will be worth it. 1.5hr each way is about my absolute max only if the job paid really well
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

-How long does it take you to commute to work? - between 45 to 2 and half hours depending on Greater Anglia trains and TFL buses

-How much does it cost you? £155 a month goes up £10 a month every year despite the service getting worst :(

-How far would you travel for work? have work up to 32 miles away but for the right job I don't know
