£200 a month petrol, for a 40 minute journey door to door via nursery for me. £488 a month train, 45 minutes door to door for my partner.

Far far too long commuting but better than the 2 hours or more I was doing pre-baby.

Depending on where I'm working, my commute is anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours each way. Sometimes one bus, sometimes up to 3 buses each way. Bus pass is £25 a week. The 2 hour commute is a real pain but at least it isn't every day.

    I'm just curious really.

-How long does it take you to commute to work?
-How much does it cost you?
-How far would you travel for work?

I've recently started a job and it takes me two hours door-to-door each way (that's 4 hours a day!). It also costs £33.50 per day in travel.

I'm finding it quite hard but it's only a 12 month contract which will end in April 2015. Counting down the weeks until then is the one thing keeping me going.

Twelve minutes on the scooter, about 40p in petrol.

I've always moved house to have an easy commute. New job, new home.

That's not going to be so easy in future, as the stamp duty is becoming pretty horrendous, so I live an easy commute from both places that I might work now.

5 minutes walk via newnsagent to railway station
10 minutes stood blethering to the local station manager
    12 minutes train ride
2 minutes walk out the back of the station to the office

eta. Sorry, forgot the bit about how much it costs. About £10/month, thanks to corporate subsidy.

Approx. an hour door to door (20 minute walk, 20 minute train, 20 minute walk). I've got flexi time on a 37.5 hour week and only take a 20 minute lunch break so it's bearable, I wouldn't want to do it with a 40 hour week and an hour lunch break each day.

Saying that, I've had longer commutes than this, though only temporarily (i.e. not longer than three months) while I was looking to move nearer to work.

Also done 5 - 6 hours/day when I was at uni, would leave at 6.15am to get there for the first lecture at 8.45am. Depending on starting/finishing times and/or cancelled/late trains the 2.5 hours each way could easily turn into 3 though. Most days I'd leave at that time and be back for 7pm (this wasn't in the UK).

I'm currently paying £1.2k for my annual train ticket - buying this with an interest free credit card at the end of the year and then pay this off monthly.

Out of interest why don't you walk the bus bit?!

Mine is a 10 minute ride to the train station, a 10 minute train journey and then a 5 minute walk.

Honestly? Because I am lazy and it is all up a steep hill and I do not want to end up sat at my desk all hot and sweaty.

I did try walking for a while but I got shin splints and it hurt! :(

I go to the same place twice a day:

It takes me about 7 mins each way in the car and costs me about £5 per week.

I wouldn't travel more than about a half hour journey unless absolutely necessary. I can't stand spending too long commuting. I'd rather be doing something else.

Mine is 20-30 main drive and probably costs around £12-15 per week. It will be going up to around 40 mins each way after the office move. I'm thinking of leaving!
