Read a story on here once before....turned out a younger member of the OP's family had taken (stolen) the money, embarrassment all round. At least they had the gumption to admit it.

Whether OP made a mistake or the cashier made a mistake or even if what robatwork said had happened, OP's case was severely weakened by the fact he had not checked the notes within a suitable timeframe.0
