Possible Bank Cashier Error.

Hi,
A week and a couple of days ago I asked the bank cashier at Santander for £240 and she quickly counted it out and I asked her to put £230 in an envelope and give me £10. I've just this minute checked the envelope, opened it and counted it and there is £25 missing. It is for this month's rent.
I think that either she miscounted or she didn't hear what I asked for. I have not yet checked my account and cannot do that online, but I will do on Monday. If it happens that she has miscounted, how would that be proved?
Thanks.
The cashier would have counted the money out in front of you.
Did you make an error in not watching her?0 -
That's why I think she made an error, or I simply asked for the wrong amount.
That could well be it. It's so easy to incorrectly ask for £215 instead of £240.
Or maybe as you say, she simply misheard you ... the two values do sound very similar don't they?
I mean, it's not like there will be any record of the transaction anywhere. Oh wait a minute...

So Martyn, what was the outcome?0

I've known customers to have a real go at cashiers when they have told the customers that they are not allowed to put money into the envelopes. This however is a prime example as to why they shouldn't do it.
I fail to see how whether it went into an envelope or not makes any difference.0 -

I've read a few of these stories before and most involve an envelope.
Whenever I withdrawn notes from my bank it's counted out in front of me and passed through.
Some cashiers appear to be closet magicians and, through the use of slight of hand and an envelope, spirit away cash.0 -

A small series of complaints will lead to this.
Really? Wow! That's a surprise.
Thanks for letting me know.
I guess you really do learn something new every day.
I'll make a note of that: bank clerks who repeatedly steal money get sacked.
Done.

It's a week later . . . and we're all left wondering :huh:0

It didn't initially sound like a troll......but when these stories don't get completed they sound like either pure fantasy, or something that the OP is too embarrassed about to post back.0

He probably looked at his statement, and realised the withdrawal was for £215 after all.Early retired - 18th December 2014
