Sky tv end of contract/new deal in OH name

Hi all,

Looking for some advice please. I'm currently on full sky package with the terabyte box downstairs and hd recordable box upstairs. Got this half price for 12 months, £47.50pm.
Rang this morning saying I want to renew the deal, they wouldn't budge so I ended up giving my notice. The most they would offer was £75.

Hubby has been looking at topcashback deals and can get our deal for £60pm plus cash back. This is a sky plus hd box downstairs and a non recordable box upstairs.

Question is will our original boxes still work if we swapped them over after sky have installed hubby's order?

    Sky won't install hubby's order. Sky won't even process it. You have to go cold-turkey on Sky TV for 12 months before Sky will permit you to return as a "new subscriber" at the same address.

    The issues are:
    - Sky notice you have had a recent subscription at your home... the order won't go through (you will be directed to reconections)
    -- You get out of this by adding an 'a', 'b' etc. onto your address
    - Sky notice you are using the same bank account as before
    -- The new subscription goes through, but Sky ditch the 'new customer' promotion on your account and you are tied into a full-price, 12 month deal
    -- You get around this by using the other-half's account details
    - The sky installer turns up and notices that you have recently had Sky.
    -- They get a whack of commission by informing head office, who then... ditch the 'new customer' promotion on your account and you are tied into a full-price, 12 month deal

    Yes, some people do manage to get around this, but many don't.

    An engineer has now sent us a 50% off code.

    Whst if someone was separating though, one half moving out? Would they not allow a new account to be set up? Data protection should mean they can't link my account to my husbands, all separate names and bank accounts.

    My husband would be a new customer so I'm not fibbing. He's never had sky in his name.

    Apart from the post by talktalktobt, what you have been told above is true. You cannot register as a new customer until after 12 months.

    So the answers no. Sorry to be harsh, but true.

    The T's & C's you agree to with a new contract are that the household has not been a recent customer of Sky - do you wish to enter a "fraudulent" contract or are you not a member of the same household as your husband?

    As long as you have opted-in for marketing then there is a high likelihood that Sky will offer you a better deal during the notice period though not the 50% off you had before.
    As posted above you would be defrauding the company by trying to open a new account which could potentially mean you get blocked from having Sky again on either account.

    Talking through experience mate :cool:.

    People frequently use to change their addresses to bybass the initial checks by adding 'a' to the door number. This normally gets picked up at the billing address stage or when the installer visits.

    A check is also done against bank detail matches if it is suspected that it is a fraudulent 'new customer' contract.

    Sky installers (it was with the exception of AVC, but I believe they have now been taken over by sky) get a very low pay, but are able to get very good commission by avoiding installing equipment (ie. using existing), being quick and identifying false subscriptions.

    If you read the contract T&C's it says (quite clearly) that if you take out a new customer deal to which you are not entitled the deal will be removed any you pay full price. The T&C's also state that the 'new customer deal' is per household.

    So, what I said is true. I hate this about forums like this - just because someone thinks they know better you are automatically not stating fact. Perhaps knowing I worked in reconnection for Sky for quite some years may help. That being said, I am done with this argument!

    Data Protection doesn't prevent Sky from using the information they hold about customers to prevent someone defrauding them. It only stops them giving the information to someone else.
