I love toasted savoury muffins with scrambled or poached eggs for breakfast, or cheese ones with Bovril (please don't comment on my palate ), but I don't think they are substantial enough for breakfast/brunch the morning after the night before, much as I love them. They might be an option for the non-drinking partners, though.

ETA do you have a microwave LiR? You can poach eggs in a ramelin quickly, melt a small knob of butter in it, put egg in and pierce the yolk, and nuke for 2-3 minutes, depending on the wattage of your microwave..

If I did them they'd be as part of a whole buffet, not a sole offering. Its really to keep the savoury quota up, and the kind of food that 'soaks stuff up''.

You'll need to cover the ramekin in cling film and put some holes on it too, go on, ask me how I know ☺ if you want to poach lots of them, I'm sure I saw James Martin on Saturday Kitchen precook them, put them in iced water and then popped them back into bowling water for a short time afterwards, would it help you to do that?

So a watermelon based fruit salad might be a good idea? Or even just nice wedges of it. That's a lovely idea if this weather holds. Wedges of watermelon and lovely jammy figs.

Watermelon is a very good idea, initially I was thinking of cooking foods etc.

Provided no-one is diabetic and has had something to drink.

Jam donuts are good too, and if they are still ill by lunchtime, jacket potatoes are full of fast acting sugar and will fix them up...doesn't matter about what filling, the potato gives the sugar hit.

Edit...if memory serves, a jacket spud gives a higher GI than a donut believe it or not.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.
  • How about a bagel buffet? Different flavour bagels with butter, jam, cream cheese, smoked salmon (if you're feeling posh), marmite, etc?
Or you could make quiche the day before with 'breakfasty' ingredients like bacon or mushroom and serve it cold.

Am I the only one wondering why you don't just get a fridge full of fry up stuff and leave them and OH to it? With clearing up being part of the deal.

Baked beans is one of my 'go to' foods when I have a hangover, either on toast with a fried egg or on jacket spud with cheese.

If making a fruit salad make sure you add grapefruit to help cleanse the liver as well as providing vitamin C. Savoury muffins sound great and if you can incorporate avocado, walnuts, spinach and beetroot even better as they also help detox the liver.

Green tea, orange juice and plenty of water to drink :)
  • When DD2 got married last year she and hubby had an 'open house' brunch for all the guests who stayed the night in hotels etc. she provided a cooked ham which was sliced as needed, someone was on scrambled egg making duty for the whole morning, she had made many danish pastries and frozen them to be reheated as needed through the morning along with a selection of muffins which were a great success. She also had a large plate of fresh fruit which was continually topped up, much coffee and lots of fruit juice which was nicely chilled for those with sore heads. Most of this was made well ahead of the day and gave them a much nicer morning with thier friends as they weren't tied to the kitchen and could be better hosts.
