What's the stupidest thing you've ever spent money on?

A personalised registration for a stupidly overpriced car. At the height of my spending I remember the lady in the bank saying "but this car costs you a third of your income", I still didn't listen. Quite the opposite in fact and went to a well known northern shopping centre for a 'look around'....and spent £400+ on utter rubbish. All of which is now long at the charity shop. Oh and as for the car, sold that too....I actually cringe now when I write this!:money:;)

A car for me also...
An MG B GT. I knew its sporty 1800cc engine would use enough fuel to think it sporty but would have similar performance to my 1.6L estate car i had at the same time. In fact the estate was probably faster.
Everytime i went out in it i found something else that needed fixing before i took it out again. Spent about £3000 on it and swapped it for a modern car worth £1500.
Fools and their money etc... I wont be doing that again.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
My stupidest waste of money was probably when I bought a limo. I'd never been in a limo and being young and stupid saw one I kind of liked the look of so went and got a loan and bought it. Stupid, stupid, stupid! LOL
Almost instantly regretted it and then had this crazy idea I could hire it out for weddings... Except I hated other people going inside it in-case they ruined it, so only hired it out twice to friends. Both times was a disaster. In the end decided to sell it but some local vandals broke a window and stole the crystal wear and TV etc out of it and threw a firework inside that same week. Wrote the car off completely and we didn't even get enough from the insurance to cover the loan as the valued the car as being a fair bit under what we paid for it.
Oh and I bought an annual membership to a place called The Crazy Bear. I loved it there and figured the membership would be worth it and a nice treat for my 30th... Only to then discover that they constantly offered deals on the likes of Groupon and I'd basically wasted my money. Who wants to buy a membership to something that seems fairly exclusive only to find the people on the tables next to you are there for virtually peanuts! Very stupid spend really, and felt totally ripped off. But did teach me that a little bit of luxury doesn't need to be expensive or exclusive.Make £10 a day challenges - 2014 Jul-Dec - £1911!!!

Around £15,000 on a wedding that lasted less than 6 months...
To be fair we'd been together for 9 years prior to that, but we were not getting on even before the wedding day, and we should have just cancelled rather than gone through with it. He confessed to cheating on me and is now with said strumpet and they're having a (I assume unplanned) baby :S
Another £410 to get the marriage annulled, plus I moved back in with my parents and had to lose tons of furniture (we rented a 3-bed semi for three years!) - he was even 'kind' enough to throw away an almost-new king sized bed while I was at work, and he was off... with stressMake £2019 in 2019 No 153 - £4517.17/£20190 -
3k (twice) on a credit card when i was 18. bought designer clothes at a whim, EVERY time i went to town i would treat myself, endless cd's (once spent £90 in HMV for a treat) £500 on alloy wheels, £200 cash withdrawal from the cc to pay for bumper and spoiler and colour coded for the car, flashing gear stick, an amp & sub (for the strong base sound you hear) new cd system, the car itself on finance............. 2 years later the car was dead & parked up on a neighbours drive, until i sold it for £300...to another neighbour - who never actually handed me over the £300!
5 years ago spent £1000 on a week's course as a Nail Technician, including all the stock, acrylic nails etc, nail varnishes, nail dryer, UV lamp, and large case to store it all. Plan was to be a mobile nail technician making money on the side, drive around to customers houses etc. I made all of £5 from my mum. Practiced on a few people then gave up.
My (18 yr old) sister just wasted £514 sending it to a man off instagram for a 'fake' driving licence. He ignored her upon receipt of the money.
several hundreds of pounds taking exes on holiday. Never got a holiday back. Both r'ships ended the same year.
roughly 10 years of renting, sometimes rent being 500 pcm & only taking home around 900 pcm...

I constantly waste money on 'miracle' hair products to sort out my frizzy, wavy hair. They rarely have any effect but I kind of don't want to admit that there is NOTHING out there that can help and I'm stuck with this frizzy mess for life! Products range from £10 - £50 which really adds up over the past 15 years.0

Alcohol ... lots of it! On my year abroad in Paris (I studied French) I was lucky enough to have a lucrative PT job, as well as being an au pair (ie no outgoing costs as all paid by family, and a weekly allowance) as well as receiving all student loans etc... ie Overall I was receiving a significant amount more than my grad scheme starting wage. However, I had too much and just wasted it all on nights out buying drinks for everyone! I also bought a couple of new iPhones and a couple of new kindles, silly things like that.
My LBM came when I lost that job (I actually have it back now for the summer, now I have finished uni, and I am sensible enough to save not spend) and 2 months later had maxed out an overdraft (1250). Fast forward less than 6 months, and I had savings of £3300 , so a £4550 turnaround pretty much based on being very savvy! I feel so much better for it now.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Rent.
Not the usual "should have bought a house years ago" rant, but wasting huge amounts of time, energy and money on the place I live. I would be better off in every respect if I'd lived in a hotel. No worldly goods to tie me down, no cleaning, no outlay on stuff or bills eg TV licence.

I am especially vulnerable to anything hanging on the shelves in supermarkets. If you ever wonder who is daft enough to buy those things, well its me. Coconut opener only yesterday! (it was with the coconuts.) Basically a spike on a handle like a screwdriver. Have a kitchen drawer you can't open.......anyone need an asparagus peeler?0
