Not great news, but no medication needed yet so that is presumably a good sign. I don't really want to google the carp out of it because all that will matter is how it affects him - but if someone else has had to deal with it in their family and knows a good source of information then I would appreciate the pointer.
Sorry to hear this.
Uncle-in-law had it diagnosed about 12 years before his demise. I don't think he was particularly effected for the first 6 years, other to moan that he had been diagnosed. General verdict is that it's speed of progression varies from slow to very slow. Medication works wonders for a long time and is always advancing.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Sorry to hear about your dad. It's a good sign that he doesn't have to start medication yet.
As SC says the medication can do lots, for a long time, and also helps them live longer even than healthy people.
There's shedloads of research being done into it and so the meds should improve over time. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Switching phone and broadband today so don't be surprised if you don't hear from me for a while.....I think....0

Microwave - I have decided to buy one that's too small for the gap and fill in with a stainless steel plate. So instead of spending nearly £500 on the microwave, that will be £130. The plate should be <£20.
I'll try to get a photo done of the finished item.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I'd have put a cupboard there and bought a £20 countertop microwave from the nearest supermarket0 -

It would not be possible to get a door to match, and there's very little worktop in the kitchen. Apart from that, it's a great idea, thanks. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I wiggled the patio door handle and he shot off under the shed, did a sudden U turn and shot out again and behind the shed. So then I thought "ha ha - so you don't live under there", followed by "Oh, hang on, maybe he saw a bigger one already in there, so bolted"
I took a look round the back, there's more "runs" under the fence than when the furry lady visited - and there's definitely activity around the "food box" she installed ... so maybe they got used to it and were all greedily scoffing in there. Who knows... I don't. I have to make it all up as I go along.
I suggest getting furry lady back, as they are obviously immune to that particular poison. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I would call furry lady too.
BUT, I would be drawing attention to the rats being a problem from other properties.
Its normal for it to take a while. Those blocks taste GOOD, if you are are furry they taste like a sharing box of chocs, but, if others are coming to the party you need more sharing boxes.
It might be another party other than furry lady needs to make a judgement call so this is not your financial responsibility. A call to the council dept is certainly in order. I did warn between first couple of visits you would not likely see much reduction in numbers, but more runs in numbers from another place is actually good sign IMO, as you can clearly say, these furries need someone else to tackle them too.0 -

Now, if they reappear after 3x when they're not mine isn't fair at all.... but I don't think that's how they seem to run things. It seems to be: "You want them gone, you pay, we come...." not "We'll take a holistic look at the problem within a neighbourhood and insist others do something and also pay"
As I said, its unlikely to be her call. It would be someone higher up the chain, even a different dept maybe, The kind of people who make orders to clean up when things are out of hand, but some one in that dept higher up should be able to direct you if this is how it turns out to be and she cannot tomorrow give you an idea of who to call.
Follow her out and find out how much bait was left in bait box tomorrow.0
