I pull it right the way forward when I use it.
But then I also get scared when microwaving stuff that generates a lot of steam ... as the microwave oven's hot ... and dripping with water inside ... when I've finished. For this reason, say, if I'm microwaving boiled eggs, which take 10 minutes, I'll do it in 3 minute blasts and open the door and wipe the inside down with a cloth after each 3 minutes ... just to be triple sure.
Once the water is boiling, you can reduce the microwave power, so it just simmers = less steam and a greener planet.
I like generali's method. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I decided that I fancy having a go at some North African/Middle Eastern/Foreign cooking so I went into a local small shop to buy some sumak. It's one of those places where they blare out dodgy music from a tinny CD player.
So I asked for sumak.
No problemo, got some right here.
Great, a couple of bucks. Got a little bag of sesame?
Nope only got a pound bag.
Oh well, I'll pop back tomorrow.
No need for that my friend. **Cuts open the bag and decants some into a small bag.**
So I was thinking to use this with a bit of dried thyme to rub into butterflied lamb to roast.
Hmm sounds nice, what you really want is some of this. **Starts mixing a large bowl of what he calls '7 spice'**Take 2 tablespoons of sesame, a teaspoon of sumak and half a teaspoon of 7 spice. Rub it in and roast the meat. Nom.
I will report back tomorrow as to how many noms it gets. Jacket spuds with stir fried asparagus, spinach salad and some good ham from Aldi tonight. Nom.
Boohkerat ( though my spelling might be subject to lirism) is seven spice.
This is my favourite type of food, possibly. ( does one have to choose? ) and sumac possibly my favourite spice of all....that tangy, delicious tongue teasing delight.
I cannot remember what I had for supper. Did I have supper? I dunno.0 -

You need to be hardwired into a GoPro headcam ..... so you can press rewind and see if you did stuff.
Maybe it's you leaving things on - and blaming RP. Maybe he's having conversations with OH "... she keeps blaming me!!..." "... I know.... but bite your tongue, admit it .... and stay quiet..."0 -

If they explode it's because you didn't pr1ck them/enough, or did them too long, or need to turn the power down a bit (if yours is powerful).
Poaching can be awkward to get right, but once you've got the right mix of container, time, power, they're great.
Microwaving poached eggs?
Pricking them?
Boilers?
Does this mean you end up with regimented little round shapes?0 -

The thing is, I KNOW I have memory problems, and accept it, so I have measures in place to help me. And I make sure I close what I open immediately, and put things away. Part of the problem is RP puts nothing away because he cannot remember where anything goes ( eg un stacks dishwasher copes with plates, cups, cutlery, but not cooking dishes like Pyrex dishes etc or lots of utensils so either leaves them out or puts them in obscure places) this leads to frustration at first then eventually chaos because firstly we cannot find things then it becomes a long job to sort out, when we are either over loaded with stuff to do or I am to tired and overwhelmed.
If I miss a meal, so what?. The animals never do, its on a check list of things I have to do ( along with things like brush teeth:rotfl:) so gets done. Other things I do a mixture of lists and doing what I see needs doing. The normal 'brush teeth and stuff though, goes on a list so it gets done, because it would be easy to miss,)

Interesting. I'd not heard of either before. I'm quite interested in understanding more about how spices work. I'm good with herbs and individual spices but I don't really understand how spices work in combination. I can use spices in fixed combinations but I struggle to understand how they work together IYSWIM.lostinrates wrote: »This is my favourite type of food, possibly. I suspect I've eaten sumac a few times but I don't know. I tried some out of the bag and it is really quite nice. Very lemony but not as acidic as lemon (do you struggle with acidic food? I have a vague recollection you might).lostinrates wrote: »I cannot remember what I had for supper. Did I have supper? I dunno.
IIRC, you had something delicious. Not sure what it was. Perhaps a nice piece of smoked fish with a good autumnal salad and some fried spuds on the side.0 -

For some reason that I have not fathomed, LIR is very coy about whether RP is father or mother. Are you allowed to say 'he'?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Sumac is on ocado, but it has very mixed reviews, and a recommendation in one of them to buy it fresh from a middle eastern shop.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

With poaching, the shape you end up with depends what you cook them in.... but they can be the same shape as regular poached eggs.
You have to !!!!! the yolk and white in microwaves, with cracked/opened eggs, so they don't explode.
Boiler ... I have a microwave boiled egg gadget/maker.0
