Something not rat related - moonrise!

Not fully in focus etc etc but I think not too bad for an amateur.

With thoughts for Spirit, and looking forward to when she can watch these natural phenomena for herself again, and not just from my poor photos.

Looks bigger/more orangey than the moon here.
    :)
I'll take a look .... see if mine's big/orange. It wasn't earlier. Nope, it's white. Maybe it's just orange at a specific time - and I looked too late.

No, I didn't take it down, it's still there.

Yes, that looks like it, except mine's completely rounded/domed on top ... but maybe that's about size, rather than being a different species.

I found it again later - I think my computer had a hissy fit, just telling me "no data". <roll eyes smilie>
The colour matches the 2nd one on that page. All these photos are of bigger/flatter ones than mine really ... but, as I said, maybe mine'll grow more.

They start off almost spherical (allowing for the stem), then domed, and then as they grow further they get more flat. I'm not totally convinced at either of my possibles, but fungi are weird and difficult to be sure of unless you're an expert. I happily pick and eat wild field mushrooms since I know what they look like from years of experience, but I'd be very chary of eating other fungi that I don't know about other than from books.

It's white here now too. I think as it's just rising it sometimes picks up the red from the sunset sky? Or it's red from just shining through dust in the atmosphere when it's low down? But it was quite striking as it rose, which was why I bothered trying to get the tripod sorted out (it's falling to bits) to shove camera on as otherwise I just get bad camera shake.

It's official... it's a rat. Just went outside and heard the rustling... so got my wind up torch and shone it down the side...nothing. So went along the side, shining the torch between each set of foundation struts. Shed sits on a 6x4 set of paving slabs. I don't know if they're continuous (24) or just the edges ...... when I got half way along, I heard a rustle..... went back towards the patio doors and saw a cheeky, furry face peering round the edge of the shed at me.... he sat and looked for 10 seconds or so, then ran up the side of the shed again .... and 20 seconds later he shot out of the front/side of the shed, round 2 paving slabs that are propped up against the fence to next door, then disappeared behind them...... through a gap in the fence.

So ..... rat poison I guess. Just lob loads of it round/under the shed. No kids, no pets, no cats around at all.

It's a rat, not a mouse - from the size. Biggun.... not big for a rat, but definitely WAY too big to be a mouse.

Council charge £30+VAT. Bit annoying that there's a charge because if I've seen a rat I don't know if it's "my" rat, or one of the neighbour's!

I found a rat in the kitchen of a shared house I used to live in once. It ran under the fridge so I pulled the fridge out and managed to trap it in a waste paper bin. The rat went flying out the kitchen window and I never saw it again. You can propel a rat a long way using a plastic bin.

GDB (I think) wins the remote dishwasher maintenance prize (sorry, I don't think MSE has a badge for that). On closer inspection there was quite a bit of crud (mostly limescale I think) around the seal. I've cleaned that all off and seems to have resolved the leak.

It's taken me half an hour to pluck up the courage to go into the kitchen and get a drink.

I found a slug in there a few weeks ago. Fingers crossed, not seen any since then. Don't want any furry visitors either. Just found myself googling weevils too (no idea why).

I feel twitchy and itchy now just thinking about them all

I so don't care either way about Scottish independence. Can't the BBC cover important stories like Ukraine or Isis or Ebola :(
    I think....

I just got a text from my mum saying that the 'moon looks like a big cheese Gromit'
Doesn't look like a big cheese from here.

The vote isn't even over yet and we've got another Royal baby on the way too.

I'm as pleased for them as I am for the next expectant couple that I don't know, but I don't want to hear about it for the next 7 months or whatever.

Incidentally, whilst I'd rather Scotland stayed, I think today's display of desperation from our Right Honourable leaders would have convinced me to vote yes. I was even tempted to post on the thread, then came to my senses.
