In my experience, things go fine once you start. It is the starting/procrastinating that is the problem!
Oooh, jelly's suggestion is the same as mine!PasturesNew wrote: »That's why wages are so poor..... for many jobs they've not increased in ££ for 10-15 years. Certainly in IT I know I could get the same ££ today as I got in 1997.
Those who can claim end up with a living wage; singles, living alone, are the ones who lose out and have to "lump it".
PN I know single childless people don't get any help, and I do understand how galling it is when the entire world seems to be set up for couples and families, but do remember that people with small children have to find about £4/hour for childcare for each child, just to be able to get to work in the first place. If you have more than one kid, it makes working seriously uneconomic unless there's help of some kind.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

With a shortage of jobs it seems mad to me that the Govt pays somebody extra (WTC) and childcare ..... when there are others who wouldn't get that who could have done the job.
There are many extras they get.... and some don't need childcare for a variety of reasons.
It's enough to make a single person cry when you see their SOAs, when they've no expenditure for childcare at all.
You can't claim the childcare element of WTC unless you are actually paying for childcare, and the max childcare element you can get is some percentage (I forget exactly how much) of your actual childcare spend. So you can't make a profit claiming childcare.
My first attempt to go back to work after having kids was a part time teaching job that wasn't enough hours to qualify for any WTC or childcare help. The school didn't understand how part-time teachers are supposed to be paid  and offered me £20/hour for the bit in the classroom. Given that every hour in the classroom creates about an extra hour of work outside the classroom, that's £10/hour averaged over the week. When I calculated how much I'd need to pay in childcare - bearing in mind that you have to pay for half a day at a time, not just the hours you're in work, and that you need the kids in childcare for longer than your working hours anyway because they need care during your travelling time, and your lessons aren't all timetabled consecutively etc - I realised that the proposed salary wouldn't come close to covering my childcare plus petrol.
I turned them down and they came back with a better offer, but even so I barely broke even on working until a year or so later when I got more hours and qualified for childcare help. By the time I qualified for it, I was a single parent and really needed it.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? This is ON completion day? What makes you so sure completion will take place in the morning? Will your vendors be out by noon, let alone before noon so you are in by noon?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Tread carefully here, PN. There are options open to you as well through the welfare system. Working Tax Credits are available to people without children - I don't know details, but Martin was on This Morning this morning(!) talking about it. I know next to nothing about entitlements, but you will also be entitled to Council Tax benefit etc and I know that owning a home doesn't eliminate people from most forms of benefit.
I know you don't like forms, but money is available to they people you call 'they' primarily because they fill out the form, perhaps not just because they are in a couple or have children. Like Lydia says, you can't make a profit on childcare.
There is a website called 'entitledto' or something, where you can plug in your circumstances and it will tell you what you might be able to claim, or maybe you could muster the energy to speak to CAB.
I think you should claim what you are entitled to. It's not fair to be angry with low income working parents getting more if you don't ask for what you could have.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

You know that smug, wonderful , 'I've got everything SO sorted feeling of getting the washing on just before the rain starts?'
Yeah, well, missed that by about eight minutes. How is it that the washing always gets in less wet that the person collecting it?
Its very heavy rain.0 -

I'll live. I have to redo some washing I did too ( DH obvious ate a chocolate biscuit forgot it and put in in a bag with a jumper), chocolate biscuit has now been transferred on to a huge cardigan of mine too:rotfl:, but I've done my tanks limit, certainly on a day with such a heavy down pour. So I'll worry about that tomorrow. Need to do floors and windows in both bathrooms and the real cleaning in the new one ( walls , cupboard etc) but done sanitary ware) feel like its a good start. I 'm having a coffee but I'd like to do a bit less hard work more pottery stuff. When ever I go to the bedroom I see the bed and sit down and drift off though:o:rotfl:0 -

You need to listen to what your body is telling you here..
I 'm not planning more house work today. Chipping away I said, chipping away I meant, I don't want to go down hill, so its easy street rest of day. I had a two hour nap, so I'd like to try and make it to evening if I can now, awake.
That was real August rain. You know those summer storms that leave autumn's calling card behind? I love autumn, but I'm not ready yet!0
