Just looked at a nandos menu.

    Meh.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Just popped onto the savings board for a gander.
5 year ISA rates are less than 3%. Most ISAs are less than 2%.
    Savings rates have properly bombed.

….and there lies the problem. There's no real point in having much cash savings, it only gets eaten away by Inflation. Most of my 'cash' is in NSI Index linked bonds, but it's several years since there were any new issues. Luckily most my other Investments have done fairly well ;)

    I've been Money Tipped!
Old bathroom, back of it is broken. Window left ( cannot do that ) floor left ( do that after nap). Next would be landing, but its full of junk, so have to go on to new bathroom I guess. Also swiped utility to keep on top of it this morning. ( DH is going to help me sort junk in the junk y areas at the weekend, so means it cannot spring clean in trad order, but never mind)

Having nap now for a couple of hours. Rest of week will be down stairs and bedroom I guess.

Been inn Nandos once, it was adequate....

An interesting find though. Old newspapers used to give people's full address, including the door number.

    .

It was only a few years ago that the Times newspaper stopped printing addresses along with full names on their letters page. When the decision was announced, it was followed by a charming letter from a gentleman who had had a letter printed by the Times some years ago, a lady had then written to him about the content, a correspondence had ensued and they later got married. Aaaah!

Oh, I did ask her, and she said I mustn't get her anything, but she'll be upset if I don't! If I get her something, she can always put it away until the year is up. Probably best if it's not perishable, then. :)

I can get something for the house - I know we need a new can opener - but this may not be well received, I fear.

No, nothing is better than a can opener. Could you have a date in the diary for a weekend away at the end of the year? Would that do?

It's DW's birthday midweek, too. I am not allowed to buy her presents, as she is in mourning for her ma, but she'll be upset if I don't. What to do? Lol.

Good luck with the move, pn.

Face up to the fact that you won't be right, and live with it?

A group treat, that she can join with. So a family outing that isn't just for her? A trip for the two of you that is her accompanying you on a trip.

    Those are great ideas!

    What did you think?

Not as bad as stakeholders... (lj then notes the conversation went exactly that way...)

Rolling acres chez New Jelly! I'm impressed.

We all agree about stakeholders, I think.

Feel like I made a decently timed choice (for once) by cashing in various savings bits & bobs for buying. Not like me at all.

Think I'll carry on overpaying for a bit. Scrimping & saving can start again when the interest rates go higher methinks.

    Sorry for going all mse!

They have been this low for a while. No incentive to save. But my mortgage rate is low - base +0.75%, so no incentive to reduce that either. With house prices rising (this area has risen 20% year on year - madmess), increasing value must be the way to go.

Yeah, hard to pick something on there that you'd like/choose .... and you end up going for "the least offensive" item which is probably a pricey burger and chips :)

    Then there's a drink ....

I wish you'd do the hard work for me ...... right.

    AU site http://www.nandos.com.au/menu
    UK site http://www.nandos.co.uk/restaurantmenu/mains

    1/4 chicken without chips AU: AUS$6.45 = £3.52
    Chips Regular AU: £2.15
Chicken and chips AU = £5.67

UK Quarter Chicken Breast: £4.25 (£7.20 with 2 sides)
    UK Regular Chips: £2.25
Chicken and Chips UK = £6.50

When compared to each country's NMW the AU one is doubley cheaper.

Without having seen a Nandos chicken/portion - and having a fear of fat, bone, skin, gristle, I'd have gone for a burger....which are more expensive.

Chicken breast in pitta with salad and a pineapple ring. Like a brilliant kebab.

The chilli sauce makes me buzz. It releases some kind of chemical reaction in the body that makes me feel great. I think some people get it and some don't, because I can't fathom why some grown ups I know, like me, are so passionate about it. I pour just the sauce on a plate at home and dip my fingers in it.
