Just had a text from the agent to let me know they've a whole bunch of viewings on where I'm living .... the day I am moving out. I phoned them to say "No, I told you the completion date and that I didn't know when I'd be moving and I'd be in touch to let you know when viewings could go on ...." they say they've got 12 booked, so they'll rearrange those for the next day.

You couldn't make it up could you ..... if they'd listened they'd have called me once they got interest to see when......

They can't be so daft as to think that moving day is a good day for viewings. When does the tenancy end?

A year! Crivens. Who do you mourn? Is it just mum, dad and spouse? If it covered siblings, uncles, cousins and you came from a big family it'd be difficult.

Only a year for parents, for spouses and siblings its a month. Longer for parents as the commandments directly say to honour your parents.

You have to be very religious to keep the no presents rule for a whole year; a lot mourn through prayer for a year but would be less stringent on other rules after a month.

GDB would a charity donation be considered impersonal?

Pet hate words 'partners', coined for some sort of nod to joined up government but now used by the police, LAs, NHS trusts etc to imply that whilst something should be / should have been done it is almost certainly the responsibility of this group of partners - ie some one else.
Not as bad as stakeholders... (lj then notes the conversation went exactly that way...)

I am not a fan of "stakeholders". Especially stake holders from the community (see above).

Oh, I did ask her, and she said I mustn't get her anything, but she'll be upset if I don't! If I get her something, she can always put it away until the year is up. Probably best if it's not perishable, then. :)

I can get something for the house - I know we need a new can opener - but this may not be well received, I fear.

We'll know if you get Mrs 2222 a can opener as you won't be able to post on here for a few weeks.

The Rolf Harris thing is so awful; does nothing remain of childhood heroes?
If the elm house list I've seen floating around online, there's a potentially bigger shock coming.
Allegedly there's a super injunction or 2 in effect about this too...

Much better than expected, thank you. I have a stonking great hangover this morning and don't live nearly close enough to a Nandos, which is what I want to eat for breakfast.

It was prizegiving and sports day at DS's school. It's a big deal with marquees and gazebos. I ended up ordering food from a local tea room and we borrowed a bench from the cricket pitch.

I had a terrible blonde moment. The bench had names and dates on it. I thought some family had children with some kind terrible congenital heart problem. Brother in law pointed out it was much more likely to be the dates they attended the school :o
Never had a nando's. Are they really all that?
Glad your social interaction went well. Peeps here are all talking about the party (I'm staying well away, as tbh I'm still very annoyed about certain comments).

In light of what has happened to me subsequent to being told that they're just going to pay me what I have a contractual entitlement whilst reminding me how lucky I am and also seeing the treatment of other people at work who have cancer too I feel quite hard done by.

I've been mulling over the whole thing of not having my contract renewed and I can only assume that it's down to having cancer with the information I've been given.

In late December I had my contract renewed and was told how great I was. In my appraisal on Friday I was told that my boss had been unable to appraise my work so far this year, i.e. nothing has changed since January except for me being diagnosed with cancer.

It's a crappy way to treat someone, really crappy. Having said that, the sooner I leave, the more horrible tasks they have to complete. There is one task in particular that I can drag out that isn't possible to be completed. I won't be completing that no matter how horrible my boss is about it.
In the UK, cancer is a prescribed condition under the equalities act. It was a prescribed condition/characteristic under the disability discrimination act. Do they have similar legislation in Aus?

Hmmm, I don't know about a donation. Good idea, but there's a risk it will rank alongside the new can opener!

I learn so much from this thread. Other people's worlds are so different from mine. I really enjoy being able to be friends with the kind of people I'd never even meet IRL. :)
    Very true.
Brilliant for the ability to canvas opinions, or even get my own views challenged, or to get a more rounded perspective than my own narrow one too.

I don't mind stakeholders in a project management sense: that is people on whom your project will have an impact.

In a political sense it means nothing, especially the way Blair used to apply it to business. There was a management speak !!!!!!.

My current pet hate is 'space' meaning a section of the market or a department of the company. For example, if I was an idiot I might say, "Davo has let me play in his space" meaning that my team is able to engage theirs in order that we may help them achieve their aims.

SWAT Team is risible (it means a bunch of fat men in suits who perform an analysis rather than a bunch of fit, heavily armed men in armour who rescue hostages and arrest bad people). 'Take this offline' (discuss this outside the meeting) is a laudable sentiment, horribly expressed.

2 weeks later. I handed notice in, they asked about viewings and I said "No, I'm completing on X, will probably be moving out the next day, but will let you know closer to the time ....." I then pointed out they get it cleared nearly 2 weeks before the end.

If they get it occupied during the two weeks, you're entitled to your rent back for those days. Your tenancy is still running so you can insist they don't relet it, or they reimburse you if they do. It's simply not the landlord's to relet until the two weeks are up. They can show it, of course, as that's probably a right under the lease, and apparently you are allowing them to. You could withdraw that permission, in order to turn the heat up a bit, but i expect that's not your style.
