Absolutely, one does have standards of course0 -

Cold enough to consider lighting the fire later.
TBH haven't felt cold. Have felt that the temperature has dropped, but not cold. New jelly appears pretty well insulated, with decent carpet & underlay.
I still have windows open, & am still only wearing 1 t-shirt & a jumper in the evenings. Plenty more layers can be worn before heating goes on.
Today I emailed my meter readings. Last bill was estimated. I paid it. Meter readings are below the last estimate, & I'm sure I was £120 in credit...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

We didn't light fire, but I have big, big socks on, and huge jumpers:D0 -
Apropos of nothing.
For many years we have seen an elderly lady cycling up a local hill on her return journey from the village. She has a doughty demeanour and the cycling is plainly both about keeping fit and economical transport.
At other times we have seen her driving her ancient Rolls Royce..which is in itself a thing of beauty.
On Thursday I saw her pushing a three wheeled walking aid/shopping basket up the hill.
I can't say how much I admire her attitude. She must be in her 80's.
OH's friend lives in teh village. His mum has also lived here all her life, she is now in her mid 80's too. Earlier this year she fell and broke her shoulder, incapacitating her for some time. As the friedn is away for an extended holiday, on Friday I thought I would call in to see if she was OK as I was going by. I did not stop. I could see her as she was out mowing the grass...she has about half an acre of grass in the garden:eek:.
These two ladies make me think..I want to be that resilient, determined and self reliant...now never mind when I am 80 odd.0 -

If she wants to go to the pub I'll meet her there. Depends if she wants to escape from her house that she hates, or show it to me so that I understand better when she needs to vent about how much it bugs her.
Do you want to join us? I can only really come during school hours, which I recognise isn't ideal for you, but perhaps you could escape for a little while at lunch????Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

We had soem repairs to our woodburner a couple of weeks ago.
Bargainous. £60 parts and £60 labour.
They were also meant to sweep the chimney. Instead they said..the chimney is not lined:eek::eek::eek: For £1100 they can remedy this.
We are now faced with another decision ..do we want to take out the chimney breasts in the sitting room and in our room?
We have the heating on this evening and although I cooked Tuna steaks and a watercress salad for dinner...I now have a pot of vegetable broth cooking for a wintery lunch tomorrow.0 -
Apropos of nothing.
There was a chap called Frank who lived further up my road. He must have been in his 90s, and he went everywhere on his bike.
Our road is a big of a dipper, where you go down into a dip from his house and then back up towards mine; it's a bit steep, and over time he used to have to get off towards the top and push the bike. I was never quite sure whether he was holding the bike up, or vice versa0 -
You clicked thanks, because I checked before I removed. I could write it all again, but not I'm on a tablet at the moment.
I can't remember your answer... and I don't want to put you to the trouble of typing something out if I go "Oh yeah, I remember it now".
Maybe in a few weeks, when you're back ... you can post 6 words as a reminder, see if it rings bells.
This dementia lark could be kicking in and I'd not noticed....0
