Potato has been a major backbone in all my food intake forever. It's something I loved at home and in school dinners ... and I always buy a bag of spuds and will make up mash if I can't be bothered to cook anything "proper" (mash and beans = a meal).
.... not to mention crisps, chips ..... and the handy jacket potato on a menu that's full of stuff I don't like0 -

Sweet potatoes. They aren't a relative but you can do more or less everything that you do with potatoes with sweet potatoes. I eat them baked, mashed, roast... And now I can even buy them pre-made as oven chips. My crisp alternative of choice though is tortillas, or possibly mini-popadoms, or savory popcorn. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? When there was the spud shortage/huge price hike in the 70s we used parsnips. Loved parsnip chips .... no such thing as sweet potatoes back then... they're a new invention
To be honest, those mini poppadoms can be/are a lot nicer than crisps.... but the bags tend to be monstrously huge.0 -

My terribly basic cookbook from my student days claimed that there's a potato-shaped space in every man's stomach.
Along with other gems like if you have to keep ice cream frozen, it needs to be wrapped in towels and kept under a bed.

Zag, that reminds me. Do you remember how you used to walk past uni digs and see 'student fridges' - carrier bags of food hanging outside in winter? Can't remember the last time I saw one of those. Testament to how much the accommodation has improved. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I'll look out for those! That's my price bracket. I rarely go down that aisle, certainly not near the pretend takeaways as they're so pricey ...and don't compare for volume/quality/taste with getting a real one from a proper shop.
Shame I only just found out as I used to have a choice of whether to go to S or T as they were pretty much equidistant.... now T is 5 miles away or soThat means it costs £1.50 to go there/back, so not very MSE to make that journey just to see if they have them, if they've got any left ... just because they're 15p
They're not listed on mysupermarket, I'll check the T site.
Found them.... 30p though. http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=255647118
I buy Walkers at about 16p/packet (6 for £1).0 -

I don't know how true this is, as I've only been to Krasnoyarsk twice (both times in 2010), but I have heard rumour that this was a way of preserving livestock in the USSR; taking it further to the North.
I shall ask parents, when I get 2 minutes.
Just waiting for the kettle to boil, then disappearing to bed. It's gotten really cold again💙💛 💔0 -
If she wants to go to the pub I'll meet her there. Depends if she wants to escape from her house that she hates, or show it to me so that I understand better when she needs to vent about how much it bugs her.
Do you want to join us? I can only really come during school hours, which I recognise isn't ideal for you, but perhaps you could escape for a little while at lunch????PasturesNew wrote: »Potato has been a major backbone in all my food intake forever. In reality, there was a survey recently of students/young people, in which over 80% said they'd go without food provided they could pay for their mobile phone.
(Of course, it is more likely they meant they won't buy food, but would pay for their phone, & go to their parents for food...)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
