Go on, look, I bet there's a cordless, remote control blind
There'll be some on a "tug and let go and they spring back" mechanism I bet.0 -

I've not had that many choices to make this year. No real fun to share, I'm afraid
Tasteful but dog ruined stair carpet has just been replaced again with brown flecked which just turned up with our carpet man as that was doozer's 'sensible' request.
Block paving, amount of grass and shape of the landscaping to the back garden. Colour of that wall. Door number. eBay sofa. DDs new room she picked colour for. New/old eBay high sleeper bed is a success that I hadn't expected.
No money in the pot, so I can't change anything else. It's all a bit like PN now with finding things that are acceptable and inexpensive.. The photographs will have to perform miracles for this house to go on the website.
The only thing left is cousin's room. That is a strange room. It's tiny and the window is in the wrong place and too high. It's the smallest room in the house so it isn't exactly going to sell it. I'll make do with what I have and find frames rather than paint or paper. I have pictures that are wall-less!
I need to find a 'spare' hoover today to repace the stolen one. The main hoover badly needs sending for repair.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Good idea, thanks, but no longer secret.
With the tab curtains, do you need one with the end pointing outwards and the other inwards? That way, they interlock in the middle where they join. All except for the top few inches where they are hung on the pole.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

.
The key with being tight is to start by loading up Google shopping, typing in what you're after, then sorting by price low-high.... seeing the LOWEST price anybody in the WORLD sells it for and being determined you'll not spend a penny more.
Then go to ebay and do the same ....
Then try to stick to it for a month, while all the things "a little bit more" are so much nicer....and all the NPs are pointing to things 5-10x the price
Then eventually give up and buy the next thing that's cheapest/will do that's as close to the original budget as possible ..... as you're fed up of looking for a mythical "bargain" now and there's loads more to source.
I've been looking on freecycle/Gumtree/similar sites - nothing in this area at all - widen it out to a 25 mile radius and you see really shabby/broken stuff..... searching ebay shows cheap/2nd hand sofas that'd "do" are all 250 miles away (no matter where you live).
Car boots are really worthless now. They've changed and are disappointing, awful, places full of tat
I think the golden days of all these methods was back in 2005-2008, when people still had cash to keep buying new stuff and binning their old/good stuff at reasonable prices. Now people are just getting rid of old tat.0 -

It's only the eyelet curtains, because of the way they sit on the pole. They have this unique quality/faff about them.
Actually, I realised, for eyelet curtains, they should be pointing to the window, otherwise, when open, you see the inside/lining side (if you care). So I'll be leaving mine as is.0 -

I do agree with the 'tat' point, definitely. There is some nice stuff dotted around but in the main, stuff that would have gone in the bin pre-recession.
I was considering car boot for plants. I've been to one in my life.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Ebay. (Often surprisingly rich source of plants if you aren't looking for anything in particular)
Local free to collect plants.0 -
If doozer can dig out my forsythia next time here can have it ( it will flower in winter, I cut it back when we first came as I am not keen, its a big roughly spherical thing, acid yellow flowers.....other people like it, not me)0

I don't see plants at the "big" car boot sales (big = their words on their advertising!).... more often at the smaller/local ones.
However, the other hidden side to car booting is the cost (not to mention time/effort) of driving round to them all and paying entrance fees. Even if you can find four within a radius of 10 miles of your house you can end up having spent £5 on fuel and £10 on entrance fees ... got lost once, been disappointed 3-4x times and you've still nothing to show. Add up those £15s and over a month that's £60 to achieve nothing.
Great for those people who ARE out and about and passing.... but if you're starting from home you have to factor that into your costings. At those prices, might as well just go to a garden centre, get what you want, then have a nice cream tea.0
