I feel on the brink of ordering a sofa and some blinds and sourcing a "little man" to fit venetians throughout and do a few other little odds and jobs (probably, therefore, a total of a day's work. No point booking somebody for one small job, you get a better price with a day's jobs.

Sofa: think I've decided to go for the 3+2 option, it'll probably be in cord, it'll probably be "light grey", or silver as some call it. I think I'll get two sofas as it makes more economic sense, especially long-term as one day you can bin "the worst" one and retain the best selection of the cushions. Only question is whether two sofas is overloading the room unnecessarily ..... and whether I'll regret that. I bet a lot of "almost new" sofas on ebay are where people have bought two, then found one wasn't used and it was over-crowded

If you can find a big man, rather than a little one, he won't have to stand on a ladder. Of course, you may have other jobs that require access to confined spaces, where a small man would reign supreme, and you wouldn't want two men. Still, on the whole, I think you should reconsider your criteria.

PS: I'm not taking you too literally, am I?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

B's, C ' s and D's. He just missed out on his maths by a couple of marks but got his English..so only one retake needed.

Remark the maths. A couple of marks means that the chances of dropping a grade are slim, but the chances of getting the all important 'C' are much higher.

I got DS2's maths remarked just because it was on the border and it went up. The amount of mistakes they make in adding up the marks, let alone the actually marking is scary.

Pub cricket is my favourite for car journeys in the UK: 1 run for each limb in the name of a pub (e.g. Red Lion scores 4, Adams Arms scores 2, things like 'The Cricketers' or 'The Fox and Hounds' scores 6 as that's the maximum score), no limbs and you lose a wicket. Start with 3 wickets.

TBH it's hopeless on the motorway but it's great on country roads.

We played with different rules. Score only for legs, and only one wicket at a time. So the King's Arms means you're out and the next occupant of the car is in. But no max - just the minimum legs to fit. So "The cricketers" could be just two cricketers, and you score 4 legs, but "The cricket XI"if there was such a pub, would be 22 legs. "The fox and hounds" scores 12 legs for one fox and two hounds. There's a pub somewhere called "the six hunting packs" or similar, that scores 48 legs because a pack of hounds must have at least two hounds in it. We used to do the same journey to my Granny's over and over, and knew all the pubs, so could predict before we set off who was going to win, depending on how many children were playing and who started. But there was lots of scope for arguing about "The Hope and Anchor" which had a sign depicting Hope as an angel - presumably with legs.

I don't play it with my kids much because we don't do enough journeys along the sort of roads with lots of pubs on. As you say, it's useless on motorways.
Yes darling, of course it is.

Thank you to Michael for arranging us, will you continue to please michaels?

    Include me please, michaels.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    What silvercar said. Good luck!

I'll wait for that then.... I was thinking about the silver one earlier and thought "You know, for the price, it'd be daft not to just buy that".

Mine don't need to be made to measure. The windows used seem to be "stock sizes" (obviously for cheapness), so it's quite easy to find blinds the right width.

They do seem reasonably priced.... but I just checked out their cheapest/basic, white venetians, 25mm slats (for comparison) and they came in at about £20, whereas doing the same search on other blind sites they come in about £10.

Ignoring the patio doors (which will require a one-off solution), I have up to 7 blinds needed downstairs and up to 3 upstairs. So 10 in total. Of those 10, three are about 50cmx100cm, two are 175x135, three are 75x130, other two I forget ... might be 60x90. So, there's a lot required ... where extra £10s and £20s will add up to covering the cost of the little man to fit them.

They all have pecking orders of importance, so no need to get them all at the same time, although it'd make sense if I found a set of good prices from one source, or there were some other good reason to buy the lot all in one go.

I only found them as I was looking at velvet chesterfield styles but they do a very broad range over all price points.

The puff pastry has gone wrong I think. Grrr. Knocking up a chocolate mousse instead.

Look on the bright side. At least you can eat the pears and caramel yourself instead of wasting them on the ingrates. :)

Tell him well done from me.

And as for his mum...I expect it feels like his success is all the reward you need for getting him to this point . Enjoy the feeling of pride.
