Our DKs also seem to worry about giving things up, they really miss our old car and any suggestion that we might move house is terrifying... As is giving up old broken toys or grown out of clothes or shoes.

That sounds similar. I'll let you know what he does with her.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

DS went through a phase at primary school when he and his friends used to spend the bus journey to and from the swimming pool spotting minis - one point to the person who first spots each one. My kids and I still sometimes play it on long journeys.

Pub cricket is my favourite for car journeys in the UK: 1 run for each limb in the name of a pub (e.g. Red Lion scores 4, Adams Arms scores 2, things like 'The Cricketers' or 'The Fox and Hounds' scores 6 as that's the maximum score), no limbs and you lose a wicket. Start with 3 wickets.

TBH it's hopeless on the motorway but it's great on country roads.

The other one we used to do as kids was collecting the alphabet, get an A reg, B reg, C reg etc. That was much easier in 1980 than today as the cars that were registered XXX 111A are mostly off the road.

I'm cooking for the ingrates at work. I was also told today what a fantastic job I'm doing. I'm going to take you guys up on the offer if that's ok I think.

This is what I thought! I think the kids are contributing too! :D

Probably not because RP doesn't want to go. :(.

Its getting a bit difficult. On the ball again ATM apart from things like 'normal forgetful ness' ( tap on when making us both tea this morning) never used to do that.

Other things are just piddling me off but has always non. Not closing doors, not cleaning up after self. ( I mean, in a house where I am always on guard against mouse, why wouldn't you clear up after making a sandwich). But that's just RP, nothing to do with anything else, so I have to take a deep breath over that count to ten and clear up myself. Not learned my the biblical age of reckoning ain't gonna learn now. I also find the feeble mindedness of age and brain laziness very very annoying. Its like a switch has gone off and a sharp mind is now dumb putty and it really annoys me a lot. Probably because it echoes what's happened to me and I find that repugnant so it makes me feel similarly repulsed in others. ( they do say that's what that kind of behaviour is all bout, self hatred! )

Anyway.....I think we'd be quite frustrated to put lots of money onto an RP cottage that RP won't move into.

My next big plan was shell for extension I think. ( in a long while) Then just leave shell for a bit. :D. But I do like the idea of coach house too.

I realise some PP is very specific e.g. "family use only", but is there any use in going down the route of "holiday let conversion", so it'd at least wipe its own face, with short notice required for a date when RP might fancy moving in there?

The changing landscape you're facing is that the RP might deteriorate so independent living isn't possible before you'd even built it.... so, to hedge your bets and keep RP off the scent, maybe a "holiday let" PP might be chucked into the mix for consideration/pricing. Then, if it were built and RP liked the look of it "now I can see it!", it might be fait accompli without breaking into a sweat.

I've all but made the tarte tatin: it's in the oven. I'm not sure how the puff pastry (not ruff puff) will turn out but the caramel is un-fricking-believable. The angels have discarded their dancing trousers and are body popping naked.

I completely overcooked the caramel, right up to the hard crack stage and maybe a little beyond. Wow, that works with pears. Nom, nom, nom, nom, nom.
