LIR - what Nikkster/PN said! (re RP)

PN - bensons for beds are (imo) overpriced & unimaginative.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

The girlfriend of DS2 has been here, now gone home. DS2 impressed with our behaviour, "you didn't put your foot in it at all" was his compliment.

She was quieter than I expected, maybe a bit shy in our company. Seems polite and caring. They were out a lot of the time, but we had 2 meals together- one here and one out, all went very well.

    Phew!

Well done that mum. A great compliment from your son.

I expect she has said to to DS2 "your mum looked scared to death"

It is really sad that the population of the UK has not yet discovered North Wales. Or perhaps, it's a good thing. For the beauty and solitude you crave is the one thing that means it's economy is shot.

Where I work this year's new grad is from Anglesey - I have learned so much more about that part of the world - all I knew before was a Nuc power station and a ferry so it wasn't difficult.
    I think....

That's sort of a good, healthy sign following a modern diet.

Your 'metabolism' was awakened in the morning.

Even on v restricted diets, the earlier in the day one intakes a portion ofthe restricted calories the theoretically better it should be.

I too do much 'better' with no breakfast and can go 'some time' with out noticing I haven't eaten particularly if my fluid intake is up and I am drinking hot drinks even longer.

BUT, my metabolism IS Fooked. Officially.

If I had a wish it would be that pRents of children made them eat something, anything for breakfast everyday, just an apple, a cracker, anything ( though of course preferable something nutritious, a hard boiled egg to eat on the go if need be, even a glass of milk to wean themselves on to the habit) and that they themselves took up the habit, and maintained it. I wish, I wish, I wish, someone had made sure I had breakfast every day. With complex 'metabolic' problems it just might have made a difference. With so many more weighty people it might make a difference to wake up 'metabolism' processes earlier in the day.

The difference it might make might be staggering. Until you get Ill will something else it might never be a problem. I DO believe in not eating when you are nt hungry, but I also believe that in modern life we have confused our bodies a lot.

The more consultants I talk to about this the more the 'calories in/calories burnt' equation is clearly true but also a massive over simplification of what can be a tremendously long equation. For some it never equals, for others little alterations can make differences that make something that felt 'impossible" doable.

From 16 to late 40's I could not face breakfast. I could eat later in the morning but not first thing. The onset of a tablet taking regime, requiring "with/after food" was still a challenge first thing.

Diabetes and more tablets now mean brekkie is essential. I throw up quite frequently if I do not get the 'pace' of breakfast just right..so if I am in a rush I have to get breakfast at work and take tablets then. I can cut a lonely figure with porridge or tinned toms on toast in the staff canteen.

I really am much better on days I do not work because I have control of the pace/time I get up & eat.

I would advocate for all NP to try to eat breakfast..but know it is easier said then done.

Ah ha! I knew there would be someone else :)

Did I hear the weatherman say that there was a chance of frost in the countryside this week? Can I just check please... it is still August, right?

OH faints infrequently when getting out of bed too fast. Glad she is OK.

OH does this too. Very scary in a child though.

Hope it was a one off..although you will watch her lie a hawk for a while I expect.

    *ungrateful post of the day*

An elderly neighbour has brought round a carrier bag full of ripe Victoria plums.

What on earth am I going to do with them? I am at work for the next two days and did not plan of a jam/chutney making day on Thurs.

Freeze them. If you can freeze them on trays over the evening then just pour into another plastic bag till ready to process.

Anything I cannot process but is picked gets frozen .

I have two chest freezers, the panic room and a mini one. ( and the freezer bit of my kitchen fridge) One day in the future I might get a second middle sized or large chest freezer, when the 'coach house' is done to put in the dog/yard kitchen. For dog food. And maybe overflow meat or seasonal gluts. :)

I'd really love to have the money to pull out some lengths of of not very good hedgerow and plant some really excitingly productive stuff.

Round lake cake its all just bramble, I'd like to put in really needful things, like pomegranites, and things that might not fruit but if they did it would be a bonus, nuts, special fruits and berries, trees I cannot make room for in the garden.

As it is, if we can ever afford to sort it out, it will probably hazel and dog roses, with bramble remaining a heavy feature!

    I've bought a rowing machine...

£65 on ebay so I don't think I'll go too far wrong, if I end up selling it again I won't lose out too much :)

Picked it up earlier and it's taking up more space than I'd anticipated. Still I think it's a good purchase!

I caught the tail end of something on the radio where the presenter said that somebody had said that it used to be typical to get an overnight frost in August.... but the programme then moved on and it wasn't discussed/confirmed.
