Argos have a few, in budget. £50 off if you spend £250 before the 19th.

But you have to be careful with their wording, "large" = the right size. This one says "Professional clean only." though, it'd work out at £250.

Fed up with sofas. Annoyed I've not got garden furniture. Pee'd off I've no food ...... I think this deserves an indian. Not had an indian for months .... but then that might be because they're not "to die for" round here.

I'll google them ... see what I think.

Googled ... read the menus, uninspired.... off to Lidl for a microwave meal :)
    back in a bit.

Top marks to lir - I think it's a Japanese quince.

I had guessed that it might be a quince (luck as opposed to skill), then read that quinces were bigger than apples so decided against that. Looked up Japanese quince and the flowers looked familiar (as much as I can remember anyway).

I've just cut the fruit I found in half and it looks like the 5th pic down here: http://fivecoursegarden.blogspot.co.uk/2011/05/japanese-quince-experiments.html

How exciting and what a great link.

I have Huge fondness for these plants. They flower very , very early, and the fruit can hang on a long time into winter, even into spring for those not keen to do anything with it, like yellow baubles.

But its really too fragrant not to do anything with. Now, its NOT a quince and cannot match a quince IMO. It doesn't scent the room or mouth and soul in the same hedonistic way. But its the next best thing....a sort of taste fading photograph of a quince, or a perfume that reminds you of a holiday. A delight in their own right.

I have had to stop buying them for the time being. I have about half a dozen now, and really no room till we have looked at the back garden to squeeze one of these joys of late winter/ early spring in.

Do tell me in spring what colour yours is!

There is one I had in a home with another parter that was an incredible coral colour. Never seen since:(. If I could find that one I might stop buying more. Mine range from white to brick red with my favourite being two mid pinky ones.

Its funny, they don't seem much all summer, but they are one of the most valuable garden plants IMO. They'll lift you heart in the grey days like nothing else. :)

Well, I'd have never stood a chance of winning that one then. No idea what a quince is/looks like. Never had one :)

    Sorry, one last sofa...
Too expensive, wrong colour and probably wrong size, but had to include as it is named after me...

Yes, it is exciting. The fruit smells lovely.

I don't think I'll be able to do much with mine (this year anyway) - I only spotted 2 fruit, and I've removed one of those already!

I seem to remember that the flowers were quite a vibrant red. Along the lines of this:
    Chaenomeles_japonica(4).jpg
I had wondered what plant it was as the flowers looked almost waxy. It is surrounded by overgrown plants, next time I'm out in the garden I think I'll try and give it a bit of breathing space :) Will pay attention to it when it flowers next year.
