If Sue Pollard and Timmy Mallet set up home together, that's the sort of sofa I can imagine them buying.

This is Ikea's sofa for people who can't decide which colour they want. Only £155, but you'd need to pay for delivery as well. It's one of their top sellers, too. You'd need to check whether it is big enough to sleep on, but very probably it is.

That's like hippy pantaloons from the 70s.

    I want lower arms......

My height (so total length) is 155cm ... but [a] I sleep curled up when turning/dozing it's quite pleasant to have your feet up on one of the arms.

This "Looks like" a shape I'd be interested in ... but not plastic, not brown. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2595362.htm but then it says "Professional clean only." which I'd not want to see in any description.

On the flatpack site, I have this colour on my "could do that..." list http://www.nabru.co.uk/images/fabricsamples/Turin-Chambray.jpg

I think this is too "bold" http://www.nabru.co.uk/images/fabricsamples/Carlton-Teal.jpg (aka dark)

    Or yellows... http://www.nabru.co.uk/images/fabricsamples/Max-Straw.jpg http://www.nabru.co.uk/images/fabricsamples/Jubilee-Sand.jpg

Or, at a push, this pale green http://www.nabru.co.uk/images/fabricsamples/Holland-Sail.jpg although green's not a popular choice, it's kind of "not very green".... but it might look VERY green when there's a whole lump of it sitting on the laminate :)

If you use the word 'dignity' with someone under the age of 30 then generally they'll look at you like you're an idiot.

That's something that's gone. The camera has the power, if you don't want to be filmed that's tough.

I think I'm turning into my mum, or possibly even my grandmother. People can be so rude these days. When I was at the Olympics, people would wait until something good was happening and stick their iPads up in the air to film it, effectively blocking the view of the person behind them. Children are routinely allowed to use their scooters inside shops. So many people are not willing to queue or wait for anything without tutting or causing a scene.

There are many good, polite people, but there are equally many who are ignorant. It cuts across classes too, it isn't a chav thing. Some let their little darlings get away with anything. I've seen them allow their darlings to pull all of the talking books off the shelves and then jump up and down and use them as stepping stones.

It's probably the case that some people have always been rude, just that they have different ways to express it now.

Its back is too low. You'd have no support for your neck and shoulders if leaning back while sitting in it.

How much does the cleaning issue matter. I mean, how often does one clean sofas? Mine (inherited from LNE) is leather, and just needs wiping occasionally.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

I doubt I've ever leant back on a sofa .... I'm small so bum rarely gets close to the back of a seat - and if my bum's close to the back of the seat my feet are no longer on the floor.

Look at how a 10-11 year old manages to sit on an adult sofa and you'll realise how I'd use one/sit.... and, actually, I always lay on the sofa, I don't sit, it's awkward and uncomfortable to sit.... never know what to do with my arms/legs.

One doesn't clean sofas.... but if one chooses to, or has to due to something unforeseen, then having to take off covers (IF they can come off) and have them professionally cleaned, then have to put them back on .... would be a pain. I'd rather have something I could squirt a product at from a can in-situ, or just rub away with a cloth etc.

Washable covers would be nice, but they are SO pricey ... it's not likely to occur.

Imagine not having leather with two children?

I'm digging out our throws again soon for sitting room. Not having them is nicer, but creates more hassle. . I washed the throws every couple of months I guess....four - six times a year?

The big sofa with removal cushion covers gets done about three times a year. I have lots of blankets etc on the cheese room sofa and where ever I am currently 'chilling most'. They get done every couple of weeks and need it at least that often because dogs/ cats and I curl up on them. In winter when washing becomes trickier to do I am grateful for the quantity of my heaps of things to crawl under.

I very much doubt that, even in 50SOG, anybody would try shoving that thing up their butt. It would be really embarrassing turning up at A&E to have it removed.

Someone died last week of exactly that. Stuck up there for 5 days and too embarrassed to go to A&E.

... throws ... Not having them is nicer, but creates more hassle.

This is the trouble with sofas.... they do look nicer without throws, but then look shabby/need washing. Taking off covers is a pain (if they fit in your washing machine, which my current ones wouldn't).... so then it's a trip to the launderette.

Then, I do struggle to get them off - and can't get them on again (which is why my sofa currently has no cover, just throws....

Leather either f4rts, or is expensive or black/brown ... and "faux" is just slidey plastic .....

My "perfect" sofa would be like my last Ikea ones were. A basic frame, then a huge duvet-style topper that gets chucked over it and zips up underneath front and back to hold it in place .... but Ikea no longer do them and nobody else does that style.

I figure with a fabric sofa, with fairly low arms and back, I could (rather than throws) eventually settle on having a duvet chucked over it for "everyday use" ..... and then it's easy to remove/wash that more regularly.....

Is there a DFS near you? They might have a sale on. Oh look, they do. Quelle surprise!
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
