Correct. You have a much better memory than me.

It is because it is a particular bug bear of mine....terms and conditions packages that are cash heavy...fab when the employee is flying high, leveraged in a greater return to the company...and all the risk on the employee when life happens...or transferred to the tax payer ultimately.

IMO..there needs to be a good balance of incentivising the right things and 'insurance'. Dangling high cash shows a lack of imagination and/or a belief that teh cash rich employee will self insure for all rainy day possibilities...when most will not.

We had personal experience post 9/11 for OH...high cash American employer..and what I develop/advocate in my work and choose for myself.

Life happens, and it is not patriarchal to includesustained or improved well being as an objective for a high performing workforce or for ourselves.

Any time. It's a more technical crime than people realise. It's one of the reasons why it's very hard to get a conviction.

Everyone knows that insider trading goes on as there are countless studies both academic and done by stock analysts to look at what happens to share prices in the days prior to a bid being announced (the price goes up because insiders are trading from knowledge that is not publicly available) yet these people are very rarely brought to book. In the old days at least the BoE used to be able to have a quiet word and get people to unwind the insider trade at nil profit.

If this route is needed then consult with chewie who may give valuable assistance if you slip him a fiver.

I've been in an unfortunate position where I've been too ill to work and too well not to work.

The position I've found myself in is typical in Aus: you have a sick leave entitlement and once that's done and you've used your holiday then you have to wait for your insurance to kick in after 3 months.

in the UK the rules are (used to be?) that after 2 days off sick your employer can put you on SSP of about £80/week.

In every country in the world the story is the same: if you're the breadwinner, don't get very ill. If you do you're FUBAR'd. It's life.

    Heh heh.

'Inshallah' (God Willing) is probably my favourite word from living out there.

It has so many meanings depending on context....:D

Q: Will my car be ready tomorrow?

    A: Yes, tomorrow, Inshallah.

Meaning: (or maybe in 6 weeks, who knows?)

    Q: Will this solution work?

    A: Yes, Inshallah

Meaning: (we have absolutely no idea)

Q: Can you please try and get to work on time?

    A: Inshallah

Meaning: (depends on traffic, whether I hear my alarm, if I can be bothered, etc, but my dad went to school with the guy who owns the business so you can't fire me anyway)

I can't think of any comparable word or phrase in english that is so readily abused.:)

    "whatever"! :D

    (suggested alternative post)

I really think your current employer is wrong on this. It is a first world business and overall supporting you would have made beggar all difference to their immediate bottom line and had they a bit more foresight helped them in the medium term.

When your boss was being sh!tty whilst you were still in treatment I hoped they got a first hand experience of Karma. They have earned it.

Pet hate words 'partners', coined for some sort of nod to joined up government but now used by the police, LAs, NHS trusts etc to imply that whilst something should be / should have been done it is almost certainly the responsibility of this group of partners - ie some one else.
    I think....

I hate the way it's used today in relationships.... so much easier when somebody's a boyfriend, a fiance or a husband. It's misused to mean anything from "bloke I've been seeing for 2 weeks" through to "somebody I've lived with as husband/wife for the last 30 years".

    Partners...

I am married to my husband. I work in business with my partner. I really don't like partner to imply a romantic attachment. I'm also particularly keen that if I introduce my partner to anyone, they know I mean in a business sense. His wife and my husband however would find it hilarious.

I am not a fan of "stakeholders". Especially stake holders from the community (see above).

Commentators who have rights without responsibility. No relevant experience is required although the ability to make up anecdotal evidence is is useful.

Having had an important sounding job title once, in a long since declined british business should enable you to hold teh floor in any stakeholder forum. This is a meeting where someone expert in the topic will pretend to listen to you and then carry on explaining why the organisation is an outstanding success despite the current headlines.
