<shudder> rather you than me, PN! I don't have an irrational fear of heights, but I don't fancy going over a steep cliff much, either.

Yorkie your home county is looking glorious this morning.

Gen, are you able to watch the Grand Depart in Aus?

ETA: that little estate road they are riding down in Harewood is really narrow, I've driven along that many times. I can't believe how many bikes abreast they have. Scary, and that's before they go fast!

We sure are. SBS has fantastic free-to-air cycling coverage.

Correct. You have a much better memory than me.

OH doesn't need a good memory. I can remember all his transgressions for him!
    Heh heh.

'Inshallah' (God Willing) is probably my favourite word from living out there.

It has so many meanings depending on context....:D

Q: Will my car be ready tomorrow?

    A: Yes, tomorrow, Inshallah.

Meaning: (or maybe in 6 weeks, who knows?)

    Q: Will this solution work?

    A: Yes, Inshallah

Meaning: (we have absolutely no idea)

Q: Can you please try and get to work on time?

    A: Inshallah

Meaning: (depends on traffic, whether I hear my alarm, if I can be bothered, etc, but my dad went to school with the guy who owns the business so you can't fire me anyway)

I can't think of any comparable word or phrase in english that is so readily abused.:)

I have quite a few clients (both lay and solicitors) who use this as well, and there are other meanings, too - such as:

Q Are you going to get those papers to me today

    A - Insh'allah

Meaning - no chance, but I can't be bothered to have an argument about it

    Or:

    Q Will this work?

    A Insh'allah

Meaning - God willing it to work is the only possible chance the thing has of not going horribly wrong

I can think of words in English which are similarly over-used. One is my currrent pet hate, "community" which means "I am using filler language because I can't be arsed to think" a lot of the time. Or it's just wordiness.

    "The tube-going community..."

    passengers

    "community leaders...."

self-appointed bad-tempered overly-conservative old Jewish / Muslim / black (delete as appropriate) men

    "the cycling community in London...."

    London cyclists

Indeed. Particularly annoying when used of such a disparate category of people as tube passengers, who aren't at all a community. I think the people who use the phrase are trying to imply a coherence that isn't there.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    You are probably right.

The only thing people on the tube have in common is that they are using the tube to get somewhere other than where they started.

Don't get mad, get on with your life. I'm concentrating on what makes my life better.

This is what I was trying to say before, but you've put it so much better. I have every confidence this will work out for the best for you.

I've done my first bit of drilling :) With my new drill :) (with a bit of tuition and supervision from a responsible adult)
I now have a towel rail over the radiator in the bathroom.

Blimey. I've not used a drill ... but I never had a responsible adult to supervise. My dad's attempts at any DIY/similar were really awful looking bodge jobs that would cause health hazards.
