Nikkster, if you hear anything , call neighbours, but also call the police!!!
They prefer to be called out for nothing than not called out. They actually have told me off for not bothering over gate issues ( sometimes we're not sure if its people or RP)0 -
Door question:
When replacing a door, should the frame also be replaced at the same time? I was under the impression that it should be, but tonight's door man said the frame looked fine, that we could replace the top glass fine and that the door could be hung the other way (I think the door opens the wrong way for the light switch). He said he'd make (he said he actually makes the doors himself... goodness knows what this quote is going to be like ) the door slightly over sized and trim it into place.0 -

Yes, will do!
Though by all accounts, they were next to useless today. Have left the property unsealed (patio doors), and my next-door neighbour has been chasing them to send someone round like they said they would.0 -
That is not really trying hard enough.
An MG Midge with a baby seat and small baby in it, and a Flat Coat retriever in as well.
I can't believe I used to do that:eek:
It was my only car until she was three. Getting a toddler out of Midge when the roof is up, in the rain. *shudders*
You must have a strong back.
I suppose you didn't trust the flat coat retriever to drive? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Our front door was replaced without the frame being changed. It fits fine. The frame needed "attention" because all the closure bits were in the wrong place, leaving holes and gaps. So if you hang yours the other way, there will be divets in the frame where the hinges were.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Thanks silvercar.
Yes, good point. I think the frame would need some attention anyway as the closure bits will at the wrong height even if I don't change the way the door opens.0 -

Exactly the same here. We have a poorly built back porch and when my dad looked at it with a view to replacing the door, he didn't want to replace the frame as it looked "rather more structural than it should be". This is the same porch that has already had more props put in the roof as it wasn't installed properly, New roof siding, same reason.. New drains, same reason. You get the idea. It also needs, should I ever get round to it, the dampproofing moving to the right place and the two side walls double skinned. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I saw a TV show where a group of I think journos were put in charge of cobra during a simulated terror attack on London and one option was to scramble fighters and take down the dodgy looking incoming flight before it was over London. It was altogether a very weird programme which I decided had been deliberately put out to misinform about uk readiness, it suggested amongst other things that underground flood doors had been installed on the tube so that a tunnel breach under the Thames could be isolated without the whole system flooding.....
They used to have that at Embankment. They were taken out years ago.
They were in case the Luftwaffe dropped a bomb on the Thames according to my Dad. They were huge green metal things.0 -
I said last week that Ikea seemed strangely more expensive, overall, than where its market position used to be: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2716409/Flat-pack-British-customers-charged-four-times-Ikea-products.html0

Today I went for a 3 mile walk, at the end of which was a pub with one of those hunk-o-meat beefburgers.
I also popped into the SNP thread, thought, "Blimey, why have they introduced weird diseconomy of scale graphs in there; it almost looks like economics", and I left the SNP thread.
Also, I have a parcel lost in the middle of the Atlantic. It is bringing me a new toy.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”
