One day as I was in a van and standing on the M6 in a queue, I looked down at the tatty hatchback in front of me, to find the back seat had been folded down to accomodate two swans wearing 'straitjackets'.
You know how grouchy swans look normally, these two were patently less than impressed:rotfl:
That's impressive!

I'll never forget the horrified face of the woman standing in the M4 (?) hard shoulder one busy evening as traffic in all lanes were driving over all her holiday finery as her suitcase had come off the top of the roof rack, burst open and spread itself across a few hundred yards and all lanes.0

Appreciate that Gen. My issue was that the original statement felt a bit sweeping, rather than to the specifics of michaels & his sale.Wasn't Salk doing charity funded work at a state funded institution? March of the Dimes and all that. Is the suggestion that people should give away their homes to someone in need?
I don't see any reason for Michaels to sell his house for less than someone else will pay for it.
Your original statement was:
which I appreciate was in answer to michaels specifics, but I don't agree with the 2nd part (there is no morality to it...)The price is simply the price. There is no morality to it unless you have a monopoly andso can set price.
Thanks!:TMy sister works in property law, something stamp duty related, deals with the Land Registry a lot. I'll ask her tomorrow if I remember.
I've had the questionnaire & stuff, & sent it back.PasturesNew wrote: »My solicitor's written to me saying they can keep the deeds (for free), or they'll send them to me if I wish ..... and a letter saying I need to think about a will and offering a discount to do it with them. And some long/dull "how was the service" questionnaire I'll just end up binning.
There were still ends to be tied up though. I did email a month ago & was told this was under way.

Well, when I was travelling in Vietnam a few years ago, I saw a bloke on a motorbike with a live pig straddled over the back :rotfl:0

Close Trev, but no cigar. Wow!Clearing the garage out, which is a fairly epic event, I came across about a dozen tins of paint. The tip, sorry recycling centre, would not take them unless I phoned the council first.
I did and:
They only accept paint on a Wednesday - summer that is fine, but winter the tip shuts at 16.00, not much good for weekday workers
and a maximum of ten tins
Both the council lady and the tip lady reckoned that most people just threw the paint in their general waste bin.
Am trying to use the paint I've been finding here. One tin has gone off however, so needs disposing of.
Brum has cancelled garden waste collections. Apparently it has got so bad, that police are permanently based at tips, owing to the number of fights breaking out, as well as the major queues.
So, my 30+ bags are slowly but surely being transported to parent land, where they still do green waste.
:rotfl:I am sure with recycling there is a point of diminishing returns where if you make it too complicated more people don't bother making actual disposal worse.
DSS wants his mate to dismantle his to be scrapped car on the drive where it has sat for 18 months already as that is worth more than getting a disposal company to pick it up. I am not keen.....
Shredded paper can go into a composter if you have one.:)PasturesNew wrote: »Shredded paper... my shredder's close to full. Not emptying it today, but it'll need doing soon/sometime. So, if I have shreddings in the shredder .... I am guessing it's best to empty those into a paper bag, then at the recycling centre lob the whole lot in the "paper" skip.
It's so complex overall. When is something paper, when is it cardboard, when is it a directory, when is it none of these. And plastics - what's a plastic - I've a milk bottle and a thick bleach bottle.... presumably both plastics.... I know plastic microwave food trays aren't plastic because the skip says no to those..... too hard for mere mortals. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
I'm missing not having a holiday this year...:(neverdespairgirl wrote: »I've just booked our summer holiday - for 22nd August, so that feels a bit advanced planning. A week or so usually suffices.
We're staying in (unoriginally, for us) Cornwall, for a week, near Widemouth Bay. We'll get Kermie a nice little beach tent so that he doesn't get sun burned or cold in the wind, and I'm sure we'll have a great time.
Challenge accepted!vivatifosi wrote: »That's impressive!

Was in a transit with my cousins. I was much younger, so can't recall the motorway, probably m5 or m6. Anyway, were booming along, when a wheel/tyre bounces past the window. Cue uproarious laughter as we all point at it, finding it hilarious that "someon'e lost a tyre!". Til the van slowed, & tilted over, when we found it was our van...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
