Funnily enough, it feels like a time of big change is all around us at the moment, I know a lot of people IRL as well trying new directions in life, moving houses, getting new jobs, etc.
Almost a bit like people have been in a metaphorical bunker for the last 7 years, and are now coming out of it and getting on with things.
Good to see really.
I concur, there is a feeling of change in the air for me too. New house, new job starting in a couple of months and a new life beckons. Lots of good change. Seems to be infectious. Hopefully you are right about climbing out of the metaphorical bunker Hamish.
Nicely opened thread Gen. Are you as good at opening beer? If so, I'll have a cold one. Save the glass for a posh person - bottle is good for me.0 -
Lovely new home Gen. Thank you for welcoming me in.

Thanks for the new thread Gen. Like Nikkster, I'd have voted for you to be the new thread starter if I hadn't been out all day, but am v glad to see you've opened it already. As Lili von Strupp once said:

I have clearly spent far too much of my life sitting through school productions of plays and musicals - my own school (whether I was in the production or not), my brothers' school (many many times), the school where my mum was a secretary, and now my kids' schools and the school where I teach - because "Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome" made me think of this:

And "Nice in Nice" made me think of this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2_Dc_mYhykThanks also to the very fine Doctors, radiographers, surgeons, nurses, cleaners, receptionists, IT gurus, bureaucrats and general functionaries of Westmead Public and Private hospitals who have given me the chance to post on future threads.
My best wishes to them too, for giving us the benefit of your company.Doozergirl wrote: »You really don't need to have typed something before. Thanks for sharing that one, DG!If I could have a wish for the lifetime of this thread (like New Year Resolution without the diet/giving up/taking up bit) it is that LiR gets a foot on the road to recovery.
Agree with that.lostinrates wrote: »My wish would be your surgery goes well and that your levels are more easily controlled and you find great health. So , there!
Also agree with that.lostinrates wrote: »Today started well, but I've come to bed now.. Hopefully will be back on feet in a bit.
Hope you're feeling better soon, lir. Glad you had a good start to the day.
Just wanted to reply to something off the last thread. I used 4od to watch that Mormon thing people were discussing a couple of days ago....PasturesNew wrote: »That's to stop them manhandling themselves and sneakily snogging girls.
Actually, I think that's only a small part of what it's for. The constant presence of somebody keeping an eye on you is to prevent any chance for independent thought or outside influence, along with forbidding access to any kind of media, or even to friends/family except by weekly letter.
I spent the middle part of today in Coventry Cathedral at an ordination. Never been there before. Fascinating place. There's the bombed out ruin of the old cathedral (roof and interior destroyed 1940), and the new one right next to it (built 1950s). It looks quite cheerful from the outside - all red stone matching the colour of the old one - but inside the architecture is brutal concrete - very grim and grey - especially when viewed from where you come in. Viewed from the other end of the building you see all the stained glass and it's quite different though. Lots of Anglo-German reconciliation stuff - one of the talks was by a German pastor from Berlin, and the clergy said the Lord's prayer in German while the congregation were provided with words for it in English and German and invited to say it in any language we liked (all simultaneously). I got the impression that that's their usual practice rather than specially for the ordination, although I'm not certain.
Really liked the vicar that my friend getting ordained will be assistant to. I think my friend is going to have fun working with him.AND I got there on time, and DS behaved impeccably and DD acceptably throughout a long service and lunch afterwards, so I was pleased with that.
Coming back to find a new NPT is an excellent end to a good day.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
