    Thanks though :o

I've left a voicemail message asking for door man no.2 to call back to make another appointment. Door is only a second quote anyway. Though in the brochure the first door person gave me there is the perfect door (think it is close to the original, looking at a couple of nearby houses) but with glass I really dislike. It's not particularly offensive, I just really don't like it for some reason:
    http://www.lpddoors.co.uk/door/classic-hardwood-external/acacia-bevelled-cluster

so the second choice is this:
    http://www.lpddoors.co.uk/door/adoorable-oak-double-glazed/tuscany-tulip
but preferably without the parcel shelf (so a letterbox can go there - having done census and electoral canvassing jobs which required posting stuff, postboxes at the bottom of the door are really annoying. Though I guess I wouldn't be posting anything through it...).

No need to stay 'properly' dressed now - time for the joggers!

I am voting for Tuscany Tulip

    Mrs blackbird died overnight.

OH is not in so much pain so that is good too. Except he is going to Civitavecchia tomorrow..for the day.

I on the other hand have the day off as I have swapped Thursday this week to cover something.

It feels odd as I do not really want to be off.. and feels like I am not committed or playing hooky. The family has all thrown themselves into a 10 minute tidy, the idea being that tomorrow I will put the hoover round & clean the bathroom but no other chores. My part of teh deal is that i will not do any work, but potter about and enjoy myself.

Our car keys live in the key bowl in the hall with the unlocked front door.

That is if I have not left mine in the unlocked car on the drive.

I leave my keys in the key cupboard. I'm rubbish about keeping track of my purse / keys / handbag, and so I've trained myself to put them automatically in the same place. Saves a lot of fuss.

I definitely don't like it either. I think it's because it's vaguely pastiche.

You've yet to discover the joys of hideous workmen hitting on you .... workmen in your own home are careless, insensitive, blokey ... and hit on you.

I had a quote for something that required a written quote, sleazy bald 4'6" bloke, glasses like milk bottle bottoms and 15 years older than me felt it necessary to ask me out by writing on the enclosed compliments slip.

Another fat, bald, fella, 25 years older than me, was fixing my back door lock and felt it necessary to ask me out to a steam engine rally with him.

So which bit was the most offensive? Sleazy, bald, short, bad taste in glasses, age or the fact he gave a written request for a date?

Well, if he'd been hot I wouldn't have mentioned it to you :) ... and I'd have gone on that date.

Glad it's not just me! The door is perfect, I don't think I could live with the glass though. Door Man the 1st has a 'glass man' but glass man isn't keen on fitting round glass apparently. Sounds like a cop out to me - might try and push that one.
If I can get a pic of the what-I-think-are-original doors without looking like a stalker I'll post it up here. Their glass is more art deco (I think), though wouldn't go with my chosen colour (I'd pick another).

Thanks for the link silvercar - I know I'm going to regret it in a few years when my South-facing wooden door has warped but I just don't fancy a composite door. Next time ;)

Keys - took me a while for my keys (car + house) to find 'their place' when, but they live in my coat pocket. As does my work pass. Which is perfect 9 months of the year when you need a coat, but not so great the rest of the time. So I've been taking my coat to work and leaving it in the car boot.

Workman would have had to turn up first...
