Well done Doozergirl. Valiant effort! There wasn't really any alternative :)

I decided to venture out last night. Unfortunately the cashpoints en route were out of order, so I only had the cash in my purse (a grand total of £5.10). I had to make a call on what to invest it in (a drink or some dirty fast food). I went for a pint of local ale (there is a fairly big brewer based here).

My walk took me through my 'first choice' area when I was looking at houses. Half of it was closed (backs onto part of the festival site), and the main street had queues coming out of every off licence/ corner shop. Parking looked nightmarish. I expect everyone will be spending this evening picking rubbish out of their front gardens.

The festival was still heaving when I got there. Caught a parade along the local watercourse (same boats as were parading earlier in the day when I walked past, but lit up this time). Included 2 'Frozen' themed boats and a North Pole one (odd on a sticky July evening). My first prize went to the 'Depsicable Me' one.

    Fireworks were ok.

We brought the kids home from an impromptu game of 5 a side at 9 but it seems the street party was just getting going, BBQs fired up etc and we were woken about 1 when it had obviously been decided that setting off a couple of those candle lanterns was a good idea, the street lights going off at 12 obviously didn't stop anyone...I wonder if anyone remembered we were supposed to reopen the road at midnight
    I think....

What was your street party for, Michaels?

I took DS x 2 to the Whitecross Street Non-Conformists Street Party yesterday - lots of stalls, lots of bands, music, dancing, etc. We came home to cool down a bit, then walked back and Isaac played football in Fortune Park for ages, with random other small people, and then got involved in a water fight, purely to cool down, I think!

Unfortunately, the promised small all through school, a late puberty and resultant growth spurt to become 5ft 7 ish has not quite happened yet. Yes he has been small all through school, yes he had a late puberty but the growth spurt hasn't happened yet!

He goes and stands by the year 7's to make himself feel tall :rotfl:

He's only just done his GCSEs - so he's either just turned 16, or coming up to it? He could still therefore have that spurt, I suppose. How tall is he now?

I feel for him. I too was a small through school late puberty person. I was also an August birthday and a year ahead, which didn't help. When I was in what would now be called Y9, I was still shorter than all the Y8 and Y7, and so the shortest person in the school. My growth spurt was in 6th form - unusual generally, but especially for a girl.

How tall are you now, Lydia?

I was the second tallest on the school when I left primary school. Don't think I grew a single cm in height after that, though clearly everyone else did!

Sister #2 was 5 ft 4 on her 12th birthday. I remember Dad saying (after marking her height on the kitchen door) that she would end up the tallest of his daughters. She didn't grow another hint of a fraction of an inch thereafter, and is still 5 ft 4, and therefore 3 inches shorter than me, and 4 shorter than sister #1.

Growth is funny and individual isn't it? I was the opposite of your sister. 5 ft 2 when I was 12, grew to 5 ft 6. Although people say it isn't possible, I swear I stopped growing aged about 20-21. It certainly wasn't 17-18. I also had the screaming teenage hormonals until my early 20s, which as not fun.

Just got back from Tescos, overheard the sweetest mother/daughter conversation.

    "What are those mummy"
    "Anti-ageing wipes"
"Don't you want to get older mummy?"
"Yes of course darling, but they stop you getting wrinkles"
    "How do you get wrinkles?"
"You get wrinkles as you get older"
"I've just had a birthday, have I got any wrinkles?"
"No sweetie, you need to be much, much older"
    "What's a wrinkle"...

When I was a small child and my dad told me I was "big girl" I thought that meant I was tall.

I still remember the feeling of shock being lined up in height order, for an infant school assembly, and being placed next to the smallest girl in my class. I was outraged.

There was no mistake though. I have never been tall.

    ..

Yesterday in a garden centre as we queued to pay a small boy was holding a hologram postcard . He was fascinated by it, but his mum told him to put it back.

He duly took it back round to the other side of the display to place it the correct gap.

His parents completed their transaction and left the shop.

As we were paying a firm voice said "put it back", "take it back in, and, say sorry".

The small boy clutching the post card was walking back in. His dad a few paces behind him.

A rather flushedand downcast looking little chap put the card back squeaked "sorry" to the guy on the till and fled.

    It was all very cute.

I've been watching too much of that series about advertising (or the manufacturing of dissatisfaction) - soon the world of advertising will have introduced this girl to the "seven signs of ageing":rotfl:

Car boots aren't what they used to be .... it's all nasty, grubby kids' clothes, DVDs and manky shoes now.

Done 40+ miles, visited three, including the "largest" in two counties. Wasn't impressed.

Had a hotdog/onions .... wasn't impressed with that either; they used to be bigger/better.

So, total spend to buy nothing was £9.85 (fuel, entrance subs, hot dog).

My mother stuck with "Measure your child at the age of 2 and double it to get their final height".
It worked, just about, for all 5 of us and for both of my two.
Once you start shrinking with age, though, all bets are off.
I am the family midget at 5' 8.5".
My mother is 5'11 3/4", my father was 6'2" (both before they started shrinking!) and my brothers range from 6'2" to 6'4".
We successfully bred out the height genes on my father's side of the family, to be replaced by my mother's side's genes.
