Not because there's anything wrong with her in herself, but the workload and stress for an 80 year old would have been huge. And the risks of her becoming ill or unable to continue were pretty high too, I'd have thought!
Are we allowed to be ageist any more?I think....0 -
Today cleaning has given way to processing broad beans. Loads of pods, but lots don't have many beans in them. I'm also nibbling a few as a pod.
Haven't even been working through the laundry mountain, must get bean frozen.
Nikkster, I reckon its the home grown plus the absolute fresh ness of the carrots that makes them so tasty.0 -
Please tell me you are going to claim the single person's discount. You can also tell them that you wish to pay by instalments - just as most people do.
Yes, the £800 is with the discount - it's over £1000 without
I don't like to pay by instalments.... I'd rather get it over and done with and pay it outright, in case I fall on bad times later on, when it's one less bill to worry about.
I know it doesn't sound very MSE to pay everything, in full, up front, but that helps me to sleep at night....0 -
I got my badge from the Mse badger ( you get a pm too).
Pn, these annoying little expenditures really mount up over time, but it think buying solid things works out cheaper and easier. Last weak I washed curtains with sewn in metal hooks, having checked they were sewn in fast, and was much less a faff than fiddling out plastic ones and putting them back in. We're on cheapey rails for those curtains to hang on though and it concerns me a little. They bow a little under the weight.0 -
I nodded off... just woken up
I'll blame the last of that sparkling wine on that ... I was hot and thirsty when I came in and it was cold, so I drank it. Still tired... think I'll have another snooze....0 -
At DD's school induction evening. I feel quite faint. Could make an impression on people!
Just consumed two packets of salt and vinegar crisps and am clinging onto a bottle of coke in an attempt to wake up.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Well, you'll be remembered.... "There's that woman that just eats crisps, then wonders why she faints...."0 -

Are we allowed to be ageist any more?
Yes - just as you can discriminate on the grounds of, say, religion or gender, if the discrimination is justified.
It's easier in more circumstances to justify age discrimination. Think, for example, of under 11 football teams, or forced retirement for judges @ the age of 70...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

How's your eye?
It's a blue-skied, cloudless scorcher here today .... would have been an ideal choice for a sickie.
I think it's still slightly bloodshot, but pretty much back to normal. Pleased to hear your back is fine. Wouldn't want to have overworked you!lostinrates wrote: »Today cleaning has given way to processing broad beans. Loads of pods, but lots don't have many beans in them. The carrots weren't quite as fresh as they could have been - I harvested them before heading to work on Friday as they'd looked like they might be ready for about a week and I didn't want to leave them for the slugs.
Think I'm going to harvest my first courgette tomorrow. It seems to have stopped growing in length and started increasing it's girth  :rotfl: I think it has aspirations of being a very short marrow.0
