[STRIKE][/STRIKE]loving the MSE attitude NewbieJosh, if you enjoy cooking at all I second The Takeaway Secret book. My OH loves the chicken kebabs and chilli sauce from there. Also, you know exactly what has gone into them (and whether the cook has washed their hands which you don't with a takeaway )
As an idea, how about having a budget for those two spend days a week for 'fun stuff' so you don't go mad on those days. Of course, there's nothing wrong with a treat or little blow out if that fits with your budget.
Digressing from my words of wisdom to declare NSD #7 since i didn't even get out of the office today and am still logged on now.
Cheersyeah I agree, I've got a fund which I call 'spending' which is for anything I want to buy. Currently it has £31.00 in. I try to put about 25-50% of my money in this fund depending on the amount I get. I also aim to put about 50p to £1 a day in this fund.
I also have a 'saving' fund which has £143.00 (I think it was last time I checked) and that's completely off limits. Trying to make that a long term savings fund. Normally anywhere from 50-75% of my money goes into this. I am to put £1 a day in this fund as a minimum, soon adds up!SAVING FOR THE FUTURE AS OF JULY 2014

Such a busy day, with no time to spend:
trip with school to local park for 100 nursery and Reception-age children :eek::eek::eek:.
Followed immediately by sports afternoon for my son.
Followed by quick turnaround at home before heading out for kidlets' swimming lessons.
So today was NSD#6.
Also, can I just give NewbieJosh a very big welcome. He posts on the Sealed Pot challenge, which I am also on,and on there the other day,he was saying that he is[STRIKE] only 16 years old[/STRIKE] just starting out on his money-saving journey. Now I have been a pretty good saver-upper,but even I hadn't started out on my savings journey that early.Well done,NewbieJosh, and I wish you all the best.

As some of you know,I am off-sick from work long-term (since last November).I still get sick pay,my full salary for a year. After a year,it's reduced to 80% for three months.Taking various factors into account, from October I will have a reduced salary. With my job, when off sick,we are well 'protected',as I work for the state.I'm very fortuanate.
I had a meeting yesterday with two of my doctors, and I was able clarify a few things salary-wise.
For the last wee while,I have been spending more liberally on clothes, things for the garden, that kind of thing. The clothes buying always involved items at a reduced price with vouchers,or in the sales, which meant that they were easier to justify.Mind you,I have a problem with clothes buying.I always find it difficult finding clothes that I like,so when I do find something,I often buy two or three of the same thing.I also bought some bras (haven't bought any for maybe 5-6 years.).I'm not quite sure that I needed to buy six (same style, two of each in three different colours)! In order to pay this massive cc bill,I had to plunder quite a few of my non-essential budgeted money funds.
Thankfully, for a few weeks now,I've got my sensible hat on again, and feel 100% motivated to start getting used to a smaller salary. The sensible hat stays on from now on.0 -
