Help - Letter from the police!

If you do go to your local police station to see do they know anything, ask the bobby behind the desk to look at your car to see there are no bumps or scratches. He may even sign a note for you confirming there's no sign of any collision.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

although...I belive the OP suggested the incident occured during half term...that might be enough time to get any damage repaired so the police would be unlikely to be in a position to confirm the state of the car immediatley following the alledged offence...
At this stage I would do as others have suggested and take the letter to a police station for verification....and take it from there...there must be some cctv evidence of your offence that has been supplied to the police or the department that sent you the letter and you have a right to view that prior to going any furtherfrugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

It is a standard request for the name of a driver where an allegation has been made. It will almost certainly be someone who claims you bumped their car in the car park.
At this stage the registered keeper is required by law to name the driver - once that is done, they may get invited for interview, but in minor cases the insurance companies are usually left to sort it out.
Name the driver - but it doesn't do any harm to enclose a letter stating you are unaware of any incident involving your car at that time/location.
Failing to name the driver is a far more serious offence that can get you a big fine and 6pts - so don't ignore the request.0 -
This sounds a LOT like bullpoo. I hope it is.
Go to the police station. They will know if it's genuine. Don't wait until Monday.
And how the hell can anything be proven, if there is no proof and no dents or scuffs on your car?
Never heard of anything like this in my life.
If I was a betting gal, I would bet this was fake.
I agree with Tony though. ^^^ Do not ignore it. Do go to the police station with it and find out if it's genuine.Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

If you were reversing out of a space, and have no bump/scratch, then it's most likely that you didn't see somebody else - and that caused them to have an event.
You can cause an accident, without being in it.0 -
Thanks again to everyone, I do appreciate all the good advice. I've been to the sports centre, they wipe CCTV every 21 days, so it's gone. They do keep a record of CCTV requests and are phoning me back early next week to see if any requests have been made. If not, I guess we are at the oh yes you did/oh no I didn't stage!
I NEVER drive into the spaces, always reverse as it's so busy, I rarely actually ever drive into a space, dunno why, habit I guess.
I'll pop down to the police station tomorrow. I'll keep you updated!0 -
I'm sure the OP in innocent, but to put the other side of the story, my daughter was hit on a roundabout a month ago. The guy obviously had damage to his car but did a runner. She has 2 witnesses and CCTV. The side of her car was stoved in and couldn't be opened. The guys number plate fell off so she had him bang to rights.... And went straight to the police. Expecting them to set off to visit the culprit (local) .... No. They wrote to him. Asking him to admit liability.
And in the meantime my daughter has had to pay a large excess while it's sorted out. Not right is it?0 -
Caroline, that's dreadful fir your daughter, I hope she can get her excess back.0

If you have not had a collision, then I cannot see how you can be charged with driving without due care and attention, particularly as the alleged accident happened in a sports centre.
If another driver had an accident because they took avoiding action, then I would suggest that they are driving too quickly, because it is far easier to slam your foot on the brake and stop immediately at less than 30MPH.
What a ridicuous assumption! In any case, why do you believe that the victim was driving a car? Last week-end, I almost got run over by a car reversing from a parking space as she didn't see me on my bike (clearly going by the sound rather than looking properly). I avoided her but by doing so, hit my husband who was riding next to me. Thankfully, we were fine, but she continued to reverse and left without stopping, and seeing how she seemed to keep looking ahead of her, I am not convinced she had a clue of what she did. She was reversing without due care, and even though I would have loved to be going 30mph, I unfortunately haven't yet reached that speed!0
