What would you, as a parent, do about sons like these?

This situation wouldn't occur in this house because my child has been raised to KNOW she has to work for a living. But in the case of your friend op, you need to let her get on with it...nowt to do with you what she ALLOWS these 'men' to get away with. However, if she was my friend, I would be miffed on her behalf.20p Savers Club 2013 #17 £7.80/£120.000

Personally, I wouldn't have "friends" who behave like this.0

His eldest brother is 33 years old and refuses to claim jobseekers; he sits on his bum everyday and watches t.v. and doesn't help out at home at all.
You say at least your friend is claiming benefits however I would much rather he wasn't as he is not looking for work and his lifestyle is being funded by the taxpayer. If someone like his brother wants to be a waster but not claim benefits then that's his choice. The big issue is that too many people (like your friend) think they are owed a living rather than having to actually earn it.0 -

Oh thank god that he is at least receiving benefits while sat on his !!!! and doing nothing all day everyday. You had me worried there for a second that my hard earned tax money was going to someone who appreciated and deserved it! Of course its much better it goes to him than someone who is disabled, just been made redundant or carer!0 -

Be aware the characters the OP refers to, is in fact more than likely that the OP is one of them.0 -
I remember my parents telling my sister and me while we were still in school - "If you are out of work, looking for a job and struggling, we will support you. If you want to lounge around, you'll do it in someone else's house and on someone else's money".
They certainly aren't tight. They never let us pay board (we offered) but insisted we save ready for moving out, they've helped us both through some financially hard times. They simply aren't mugs!Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -

You remind of when I started work and my Mum wanted keep money from me, I was fuming, but in hindsight now it was one of the best moves my parents did, as I can quite happily say, everything you see me with I worked for and it's paid for.0 -

when i said "at least he's getting benefits" is because he does help out with the money he receives. he is on benefits because he is on medication for schizophrenia. he has been on benefits for a long while, though and i think he's become comfortable receiving benefits instead of working. Their mum has illnesses similar to that, including other illnesses, but she is the one working hard and slaving every day at home. she has already been ill due to stress, so it's not good that they're all behaving like they are. But my friend is putting money into the pot, whereas his brother isn't claiming and thus not contributing with any money.0 -
Aww, another sweet troll-y post since the cougar date one has been sussed!0

Is it jack-a-nory time again by any chance? Do these "friends" even exist?0
