Have I missed an update to the Highway Code ?
It seems that cyclists can ignore all road traffic signals and continue forward regardless - and then they wonder why they are at risk... !

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Not many cyclists get injured sneaking through a red light.

Maybe just make sure your own driving is up to scratch as a cyclist is far more likely to get hit but a driver sending a text message than through their own negligence.

When you don't have any visible means of identification, and you can give any plausible old name & address if actually stopped by the Police, you can pretty much do as you like.

If you feel aggrieved you can join them, otherwise take no notice :D
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

    Will it hurt less?

The cyclists that do that are idiots, the same as the car drivers that ignore traffic signals. Many, if not most cyclists do obey the rules but you probably won't remember them as they are being good.

It is true, cyclist put themselves at risk by ignoring traffic signals, but in my experience that is only a tiny irresponsible minority (the same with car drivers, the vast majority of which are fine - I should know, I am one!). Most cyclists (including me) are in the business of self-preservation and ride sensibly.

It always annoys me how the government bleep on about road safety for bikes and silly proposals like the bigger vehicle should be deemed liable until proven otherwise blah blah blah blah blah. Yet many drive like morons who deserve to be mowed down.

Not much sympathy for many of them here.

    Do you really think that?
  • It's simple. Bicycles should be registered and insured. Same as cars. And a compulsory on road training scheme ( which can be public funded ).

I had a woman with a baby strapped to her chest cycle in front of my car from the pavement. Had to brake.

I didn't want to hit her ofcourse, but she's stupid risking herself and her son. Some basic road safety training, and the ability for me to report her for this might save her life

It's just below the HC rule that says that motorists can drink and drive or drive dangerously and kill hundreds of innocent cyclists and pedestrians each year.
Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.

In much the same way that cars are registered and insured - which means jumping red lights, texting whilst driving and hit and runs have been totally wiped out? I presume you are reporting those people too? And most cyclists are also drivers, so have had extensive road safety training already like yourself. Just accept there are a few idiots out there who cycle much like there are a few idiots who drive, then we can all get on quite nicely!
