I'm fine on main roads, just not on motorways.

In my experience/opinion, motorways (when used correctly) are far easier and safer to use than most "main roads".

    Middle lane hoggers !!!!!!
    Arrrh!!!

Have not read all the posts but this is one of my pet hates.

In most cases on the motor way there are three lanes of traffic. All three can be used if necessary. So why do people insist on cruising in the middle lane. The first lane is not the slow lane. Your engine will not fall out, driving in the inside lane will not affect your manhood or sexual prowess so why!!!!

Why drive in the middle lane? Worse still driving in the middle lane when all the other lanes are free? Why? What reason could there ever be!

When this happens I deliberately drive towards them in the inside lane make a slightly exaggerated manoeuvre into the middle then outside lane then same again back in the inside lane.

Sorry boils my blood almost as much as people driving with their fog lights on when it is not foggy!
Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A

This is exactly how i feel, my wife gets this exact rant off me all the time.

I dont bother with the lane changing manouvre though, i just cruise on past up the inside lane...

To be honest, it's joining the motorway which I find hardest as I did have a bad experience when I saw that cars were close together.

Some motorways you have to merge in soon after joining but some the slip lane becomes the left lane for a while before you merge in..
I suggest that you don't try going for the M6 toll after joining the M6 at J12. You have to go from the slip road to the middle lane in a very short space of time. it's really fun when it's busy.

I normally just close my eyes and put my foot down (only joking)

Please do that when there is a police car nearby. Please.

It looks like there is almost a mile between the 2 junctions so hopefully possible to go from lane 1 to lane 2 in that time, but not tried it.

One of the most dangerous junctions I have used is when leaving the Shell Petrol station on the A38 "Devon Expressway" near South Brent - to get from the petrol station back to the A38 (northbound) you actually have to start by joining the *exit* slip road from the A38, so as well as having to join a 70mph traffic stream from a standing start you have the added hazard of people leaving the A38 using the same lane that you are using to join the A38.

That is about right from the slip to actual slip but even so it can be quite a fight to get to the second lane in that distance. It is not uncommon to see suicidal lunges because people have been trapped in lane 1

I guess if they don't make it they get to save some money in tolls :D

And drive down the left side of Birmingham at 5MPH.

Of course once you get to the middle lane then you have the problem of cars trying to get from the 3rd lane to either the middle or left hand lane because they don't want to pay the toll
