Middle Lane Hoggers - I hate them!

Why do you hog the middle lane? I hate you for it.
The middle lane is only for overtaking slower moving vehicles travelling in the inside lane so why oh why do so many drivers spend almost all their journey in that lane.
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Which lane are you in? When I drive on the motorway I do stay in the left hand lane most of the time, but most do not.
I suspect that the majority of people who whine about middle land hoggers drive in the right hand two lanes most the time themselves. If you obey the rules you may have cause to complain, being blocked in is no fun.
If you are like most people who complain about middle lane hoggers, someone who is a middle lane hogger themselves, who doesn't use that lane just for overtaking, but views it as a special lane in which national speed limits should be suspended so you can zoom along at 80, 90 or more mph unimpeded. I have no sympathy for you.0 -
There's a big issue.. you're supposed to keep left unless overtaking. Whether you're dawdling or not, you're still getting in the way of people travelling faster than you.
I keep left and trucks and people joining the motorway don't bother me, because I move into the other lanes when required.
It's not rocket science!
Do those people moving 'faster' ever get out of the middle and outer lane themselves, and pull back into the left hand lane? I suspect they don't.0 -

Is that a problem?
The car manufacturers have kindly provided us with mirrors so that we can see what's behind us. It's reasonable to have an extended stay in the outer lanes, as long as you move over when someone faster comes along, if it is feasible to do so.0 -

I see some people stay for significant times in the outer lanes, but they're usually overtaking almost everyone they come across, so that's a legitimate use of the lane (albeit that their speed is not legitimate). They too should move back once it's clear they're not about to overtake imminently. What will your verse be?

It is a problem, because those who whine about middle lane hoggers main point is the middle lane is an overtaking lane. You do not spend an entire journey overtaking.
It is all very well for them to get on their high horse demanding slow drivers play dodgems with the endless line of lorries in th left lane, but they can hardly do this if they spend their entire lives in the overtaking lane, refusing to play dodgems with the lorries themselves.0 -

The problem i've noticed with people doing this, is if a car is behind them and wanting to get past and keeping a safe distance they don't move.
Usually someone needs to drive right up behind them, very closely so the person cruising in an overtaking lane knows they want past.
Even then, it might take a flash or two of the lights.
Even then, sometimes they still don't move. All your base are belong to us.0 -

Some people drive so fast that they're overtaking pretty much all the time.
My rule of thumb is that if I'm going to be overtaking in, say, less than 10 or so seconds after I have just overtaken a vehicle, then I'll stay in the lane I'm in and perform the next overtake as well before moving back over.
I sometimes make an exception to this if I can see that the person behind me is in a hurry, depends how good a mood I'm in.What will your verse be?

If I have a lorry 50 to 100 yards in front of me (doing 56mph), and I am doing 70mph, then I would pull in to let one car past. However, if there was a stream of cars behind then I would think twice, because I would then be looking at 56mph being pinned up the back of the lorry, unable to get out.
I often let cars pull out to overtake, but then get frustrated when they don't really put their foot down.
The worst I have seen in a long time was on Friday, on the four lane section of the M2. There was a BMW up ahead doing about 50 - 60mph (As I passed it became obvious that he was on his phone), and I had about a dozen cars coming up in the fast lane behind me. The only safe thing to do was to slip in to the empty inside lane and leave myself a clear lane between us. If I had pulled out into the outside lane, I would have caused the other cars to slow down.0 -

I would have thought you have more right to continue your journey at the legal limit even if it causes someone else to have to slow down to the legal limit for a few precious seconds.0
