Could you give us a link to where that is made clear, please?0 -

I don't think that's an actual offence either.
Cops just use careless driving or driving without due care and attention to get around it and penalise people doing so.
But, I can confirm that people will get done for changing lanes deliberately to overtake - my dad got sent to one of those road safety courses.
I'm happy to be corrected with actual facts rather than further guesswork (which I have already done).0 -

DO NOT overtake where you might come into conflict with other road users. For example ..
when you would force another road user to swerve or slow down
This sounds like it is aimed at not causing oncoming traffic to swerve or slow down.
Due to the number of drivers who have no respect for speed limits it's almost impossible to overtake at the legal limit on a typical motorway without causing speeders to slow down to the legal limit.0 -
And mine's different also.
The drivers that are "waiting for him/her to move left" are acting like sheep and are as bad as the "leading hogger". BUT of course some of those following vehicles may be prohibited from using lane 3, such as HGV's or coaches.
Personally I would of thought that with today's CCTV/ANPR technology, prosecuting these incompetent drivers will soon become common on the motorway network.
If they do that the road's will be clear in a week when every gets banned - tailgating is a far worse problem on the road than lane hogging - almost everyone I see drives too close to the car ahead, it's just as illegal and significantly more dangerous.....0 -
I sometimes wonder what is actually so bad about "undertaking" as all it is doing is making use of a bit of road that would otherwise be empty and it works fine in countries like the USA. Most UK motorways are effectively only 2 lane as the "slow" lane rarely has any traffic in it apart from some HGVs so allowing undertaking could increase capacity without having to build extra lanes.0

"Undertaking" and 'passing on the left' are two completely different things.
If you're doing 70mph in lane 1 and somebody is doing 60 in lane 2 - hogging it up, then passing them in the natural flow of traffic is not an offence. Nor is it 'undertaking'0 -

Can you show me where in the law it differentiates between simply passing on the left, and moving from an overtaking lane into the left hand line in order to overtake?
The only bit I can find it in the highway code (which I appreciate is not law - but is taken into account) says that you can pass on the left if you're in congested traffic and your lane is moving faster than that to your right. This is clearly for those situations where both lanes are congested, and the left hand lane happens to be moving faster. What will your verse be?

Look..... It's purely subjective, it depends on who sees you, how they interpret your driving and what sort of mood they're in.
If your darting all over the motorway, weaving in/out of traffic, then your going to get into trouble.
Dangerous and careless driving are pure judgement calls, based on whether a trained Police officer deems your driving to be substandard.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Having not read all the threads, in the left lane you have have to move to middle often anyway for over taking and for those joining, and then move back to the left lane.
Makes it easier to stay in middle in the first place.0 -

So what if it's easier, it's incorrect.
It would be easier for me to move into the opposite lane of traffic as I'm approaching a right turn so that oncoming vehicles stop for me rather than me having to wait until it's clear, but I'm not going to do it.What will your verse be?
