If the public sector enforced the rules around the airports, the profit motive would not be there (at least, to such an extreme extent anyway) so someone stopping to check their whereabouts and get their bearings, or stopping to read the notices (yes people have even been ticketed for the latter!!) would be OK.

Possibly rose tinted, how many times have we seen news of target driven enforcement in the public sector? All public departments have a budget, and it's fairly obvious this would be seen as a cash cow by the public sector as well. Possibly more so, as they could charge any amount they wanted to, and know a lot more people would pay.

Court can be a lottery but a properly defended case will normally win ( and has on numerous occasions ).

Contract law only allows for loses to be claimed for the 'infringement' - that makes nearly all these types of tickets unlawful. I still have two outstanding invoices from G24 who kindly rang me 4 months ago to tell me that unless I paid immediately that I would be taken to court ( oh and those two £50 tickets are morphed to a massive £400 - £400 in loses ? Really ? Pull the other one ! ). I pointed out that G24 had NEVER taken anyone to court and the response was "I couldn't give a s**t". Despite numerous reminders from me that I still haven't received my court papers G24 still haven't taken me to court. Ask yourself why ?

Add in that many of these companies are bullies - I've been physically threatened by one PPC employee and threatened over email by other PPCs. That's because they don't like the scam being highlighted.

So we have companies issuing unlawful invoices and then using unlawful tactics ( i.e. threats and lies ) to try and scare people into paying yet people like you defend these invoices - amazing !

Then it's about time the companies stopped disguising them as 'penalty' charges and started advertising service charges instead.

    IE
    0-2 hours = free
    2+ hours = £70

That way their not trying to claim breach of contract, merely chase for payment for services rendered.

    But not all public departments!

Private on the otherhand can only survive and grow from issuing more and more tickets.

    No they don't.

The whole defense around here is to do with breach of contract and damages. Being the amount being charged is not a genuine pre-estimate of damages caused by the breach of contract (ie unauthorised parking, overstaying etc).

Whereas my point is it would make it interesting if they changed their business model away from the whole parking fine deception and merely forced the contractual route - being they parked for x time and y payment is due as stated in the contracts price structure.

Pretty sure i saw a couple recently. TCP (as was) iirc used to.
Problem with that though is the scammers can't usually set a rate, and certainly not one as extortionate as that.

I'm sorry, if you really are promoting council run traffic/parking enforcement as not profit making, I'm afraid you won't be getting many followers. Parking is a chicken and egg argument. Is there an industry that decided to go out and catch correctly parked, unsuspecting motorists, then playing further tricks to catch more, or did the industry grow, and fill a demand created by badly parked motorists, that grew as the number of cars on the road increased. And obviously, even as will council run parking schemes, their will always be mistakes, and poor enforcement. Or would we like removal of all rules, and allow free parking anywhere, which would ensure no excess profit, and no unfair tickets?

I do have the solution for airports by the way. Thunderbird style hover trucks. Any car parked where it shouldn't be, the truck hovers over, scans for life, finding none, picks the car into the bomb proof hold, instantly crushes it into a cube, and deposits it by the entrance roads to build anti ram raid barriers, rather than concrete blocks. All paid for by something like a £10 levy on all tickets. Benefits - no private, or public company/office making money, so no incentive to collect cars. No cars left unattended. No cars on yellow lines, access roads, bus lanes. Everyone pays an equal cost to use the airport. Really cool technology. Especially at night with spot lights.

Or how about putting automated barriers in place and actually charge drivers for the period they parked?

    I prefer hover trucks.
