The "fuss" is about illegal impersonation of authority. The key term there being "illegal". ;)

Whilst I don't doubt the commercial reasons behind WHY they did it, and WHO they did it to, it was the HOW they did it that was wrong.

True, but is is really just a bit of a technicality that seems to be getting a lot of people rather worked up for some reason.

    Technicality?

Outright lying, sending a solicitor's letter from a solicitor that doesn't even exist, sent to threaten and frighten someone, is a "technicality"?

These were sent to people who had reneged on their debts.
Does it make much difference who it says the letters come from? (Assuming it does not refer to government or police.)

    A £2,600,000 technicality!
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Think that is £50.00 quid compensation to each "victim".

OK, the letters may have been sent to riff raff, but even riff raff have rights, one of which is not to be harassed by loan sharks.

Not taking Wonga to court is disgraceful, but there you go, they would rather spend money prosecuting people for calling other people names.

Pretending to be a solicitor a technicality? I thought it was an offence.

    Many offences are technicalities.

The only technicality here is that Wonga have (so far) not been subject to a criminal investigation.
