I was reading this about 10 minutes ago and was reminded of the "fake lawyer" letters we regularly see on here

Problem being Wonga are regulated ( I use that in the lightest sense of the word ) and so can be punished. PPCs are not - regardless of what the BPA might imply.

its also about debts which I assume the people were contracted into and signed for

whereas this private parking lark is always about assumed contracts and assumed "debts" where nobody has actually signed a written contract with the issuer/landowner thereby entering into a written contract, unlike wonga or similar companies

in other words this private parking is all smoke and mirrors with no actual written legal contract in place so half of the time the defendant is implying that the claimant has no legal contract so no right to make a claim

but this use of non-lawyers does seem to happen a lot , like srs this and blah blah collections that, all dressed up in legalese by non-solicitors

If I were to send a tenant who owed me rent such a letter I would be up before the beak before you could say "rogue landlord".

    They got off lightly.

£2,600,000 Wonga in fines probably helped. Money tends to talk when it comes to corruption.

I wonder if oor Trev and the Hargreaves tribe (kudos to Bazster), aka H&S Litigation Services, are starting to sweat just a bit (sorry for the 'image' of dripping over-weights, hope no one is eating as they read!). :D
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Just to pick up on the thread title, Wonga were not fined - they were advised to compensate those customers affected by that tactic, so as to avoid a legal probe.

But they could also face criminal proceedings for issuing those fake documents (according to the BBC).
