but that doesnt stop you claiming PIP.
you are CHOOSING not to claim because you dont want the aggravation.

Thanks Nanny, I know it doesn't stop us claiming but seeing that we have enough money at the moment to live on, I don't see the reason to become one of the 700,000 souls that are left in limbo only to find that the DWP in 12 months time decide to tell us that we aren't disabled enough.but that doesnt stop you claiming PIP.

Interesting. My parents (well, mum more than dad) didn't think they'd be entitled because they don't claim carers allowance.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

no one claims carers for me, but certain places allow any disabled person to have a 'helper'.
a few years ago we went to thorpe park.
i paid to go in but 2 'helpers' were allowed in for half price

Just to clarify the original question, although the LA registers may originally have had some other purpose, for at least the last 20 or so years they existed purely in order for SSD's to provide statistics to the Department of Health. Once the DoH no longer requested the stats the LA's mostly ceased to keep the registers. Phys Dis stats ceased collection at least 5 years ago. When I retired 3 years ago Blind/Partially Sighted and Deaf/HH stats were still being collected. Only the Blind/PS stats were really any use as to get on the register you needed confirmation from a consultant, the other registers had no such requirements. All registers were in any case voluntary and not everyone chose to be registered particularly once there was no gain for doing so.
However, some of the posts above are missing an important point. To qualify for say a Blue Badge you may need to be in receipt of DLA (although there are other criteria) because BBs are for people with mobility issues.
I have a profound hearing loss, and am disabled as defined by the Equality Act. Because of that, I qualify for a NOW bus pass, and possibly other things too. However, I have no mobility issues so would not require (or be entitled to) a Blue Badge or DLA.
So to use receipt of DLA/PIP as proof of disability would exclude me and many others who may be entitled to help with issues other than mobility.I want my sun-drenched, wind-swept Ingrid Bergman kiss, Not in the next life, I want it in this, I want it in this

But you can claim PIP if you have care and /or need helping getting around. (ie, safety)Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Although most local authority's stopped a adult disability register that is not visual or hearing there are odd authorities that do still have a adult services disability register. I work for one authority that not just has a register but is in fact expanding the register. So its always worth contacting them and you may get what the proof of disability you need. I have to say the authority I work for registers adults on their word without asking for official evidence.0

You're still missing the point - I cannot claim PIP or DLA because my disability does not warrant it, but that does not alter the fact that I am disabled and may be able to claim certain concessions on the strength of it so I and many others would not wish PIP or DLA to be the criteria for defining disability.I want my sun-drenched, wind-swept Ingrid Bergman kiss, Not in the next life, I want it in this, I want it in this

If your deafness is so severe that you can be registered as deaf, you should still be able to get concessions. I've managed to get concessions based on just my bus pass.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
