Online banking-with Ridiculous OverProtectiv Secuirity? Regular blocks for no reasons

From your experience (and there are frustrated online bankers here who get blocked for doing something they have done 5 times previously but now get blocked)
which online banking transfers to bill payments, credit card payments (to external credit cards )
do you find the most ridiculous in terms of regular unnecessary blocks for no reason.
I know shouldn't be saying silly fraud protection, but i mean the ones that block for no reason, like for online bill payments which you have made to that bill previously only to block it the next time you do it (for no reason)

I appreciate they are doing their job and doing their preventive measures, but asking.

Sorry, can't vote in your poll. I have active accounts with all but one (or two?) of the current account providers you list, and all of them have their own inadequacies. But I don't think I can say that any of them have an "overprotective ridiculous security blocking system" - what do you mean by that, anyway?
Not all of the ones you list are banks, btw: Lloyds TSB is no longer an existing bank, and you are not listing all UK current account providers so your poll couldn't possibly be objective.
I have felt annoyed by Santander's procedures for first time transactions to a new payee but certainly never got blocked for "doing something I have done 5 times previously", and I have not seen anyone reporting on here that a "5 times previously" has happened to them.
Where are the "many regular stories of issues here" you have read - could you link them please?0 -
You need to add a "None of the above" to your poll, else I can't vote.
Reason being that I don't think any of them have "Ridiculous OverProtectiv Secuirity" or "Regular blocks for no reasons". I have accounts with lots of banks and building societies and have experienced the following:
"Please authorise this payment using your card reader"
"We'll text you to confirm this payment"
"We'll phone you to confirm this payment"
"Please generate a code using your secure key"
All fair enough, I prefer the upto 2 minutes inconvenience than the time it takes to clean up after someone has impersonated me.
Sometimes banks such as Santander and First Direct may delay payments, but they are still complete by the end of the next working day, which is in line with the current payment regulations.0 -

what happened in their procedure for first time transactions to new payees ?0 -
Although generally happy with them, Santander on line would get my vote for one reason only.
I usually use my desk top for banking but on the occasion I have used my I pad and then gone back to my desk top it is frustrating to find that on inputting my security details, I get the response" Details not recognised by this computer"
I have then to key in additional security data. Frustrating as it is I can take comfort in their apparent extra safeguards.0 -
Never had a problem. Perhaps its something to do with the way you administer your account.0

I last had issues with Santander 18 months ago because my circumstances didn't fit with their security (I was abroad, which meant they couldn't contact me via my home phone), which meant my account was blocked as they couldn't reach me.
At the time it irked me somewhat as they didn't try my mobile, which I had with me, and of course I had no idea they'd blocked the account apart from a "access denied, please ring 0845" message on online banking, and I was loathe to call them from abroad and spend a fortune whilst on hold.
After that I channelled all payments from Santander via First Direct for a while, as First Direct never blocked or delayed a single payment to new payees. Then I realised that this was pointless, and back in the UK with my phone, I've never since had an issue.0 -

They just seem to be checking the first transaction to new accounts for what seems to be forever. Their legal obligation is to get the money to the recipient by the end of the next business day, and they do meet that obligation (unless your transaction is considered fraudulent). I have often complained to Santander about the delays in their processing and have always been told the delays are to my advantage. Hmh. Somehow this doesn't sound convincing.
Basically all other banks process payments to new payees within minutes. Santander have just about no excuse as to why they need to hold up payments - but as I said, they are processing them within the legally required timescale, so they are not doing anything wrong, they are just annoying like hell with payments to new payees.0 -

how long is forever? 1 day? or 5 days? 3 weeks lolArchi_Bald wrote: »(unless your transaction is considered fraudulent)
if it doesn't go through, due to being considered, then do they write a letter to you to confirm this ?0 -
I don't see the point in this poll. I've got a feeling it Not seeing a point in this poll or none were included as an option it would be by far the winner.0

Just... you know... don't vote?
I don't know why Santander have loads of votes. It's not like you have to have a silly secure key to log in or anything.
However many banks call you when making a transfer. Santander text me a code to use, which is slightly better but still not ideal.0
